Denson gets
mayor spot
inrun-off
By SARAH QIARRATANA and

The Red & Black
By 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Athens
Mayor-elect Nancy Denson took
the stage to make her victory
speech.
“It’s not about you, it’s not
about me, it’s about Athens,”
Denson said. “You all have con
tributed to my campaign and I
thank you.”
After leading
most of the night,
Denson's lead grew
to more than 2,000
votes, which incited
cheers from her
supporters filling
the Athens
Buffalo’s.
“We were hoping
for the best victory
tonight,” Athens
small business owner DRee Krohn
said. “I think that she’s better for
small businesses. I know the work
ethic in that family, I know how
she has worked in her own small
businesses and I know that she
will do what needs to be done to
bring better structure to the small
business encouragement for
Athens.”
Throughout her campaign,
Denson emphasized her goals:
bringing more businesses to
Athens and balancing the books.
Many supporters scattered around
Denson’s election party expressed
support for Denson because of her
fiscal experience as the Athens-
Clarke County Tax Commissioner.
“I think her fiscal sense is going
to help the city of Athens, which is
most important. All over the state
of Georgia, like the city of Athens,
is in a fiscal crisis,” said Margaret

In their six games so far, the

which is made all the more
impressive because the team
