COLOMBIAN PRESIDENT IS SWORN IN BOGATA, Colombia, (NC) — Alberto Lleras Camargo was in augurated President of Colom bia here as high Church and State dignitaries looked on the ceremony formally beginning a 12-year truce between the na tion’s major political factions. Honored By kalian Government BOLOGNA, Italy, (NC)—The Italian government has decorat ed one of the consulting doctors who treated His Holiness Pope Pius XII during the Pontiff’s grave illness in December, 1954. Italian President Giovanni Gronchi cited Doctor Anthony Gasbarrini, as an “honorary doctor” of the Italian state for his “enlightened contributions to the most complex problems of medical pathology and care . . Baldwin Dwerschak, O.S.B., who will oc cupy the newly created post of Chancellor. FOUR BISHOPS AT FUNERAL FOR CHAPLAIN NEW YORK (NC) — Requiem Mass was offered in Holy Cross church here for Msgr. Martin J. O’Connell, 53, chaplain of the New York Police Department. Present were more than 2,000 persons, including Auxiliary Bishops Edward V. Dargin, John M. Fearns, Joseph F. Flannelly and Philip J. Furlong of New York. Also in attendance were .May or Robert F. Wagner of New York, Police Commissioner Ste phen P. Kennedy and an honor guard of 500 policemen. Bible Scholar Receives Honor From Pontiff NEWARK, N. J. (NC) — A well known Bible scholar was among n group of 11 priests and one layman of the Newark arch diocese honored by His Holiness Pope Pius XII, Archbishop Thomas A. Boland of Newark, announced here. Mrs. John J. Dougherty, pro fessor of Sacred Scripture at Im maculate Conception Seminary, Darlington. N. J., was named a domestic prelate with the title Right Reverend Monsignor. Bishop Sheen Gives Communion To Princess BRUSSELS, Belgium, (NC)— Auxiliary Bishop Fulton J. Sheen of New York gave First Communion to Princess Marie Christine, daughter of King Leopold III of Belgium, here. Bishop Sheen administered the sacrament to the Princess while he was a guest of the Royal Family of Belgium during the International Catholic Days held at the Brussels International Ex position. FATHER KELLER TO PREACH AT 15TH LABOR MASS CHICAGO, ILL., (NC) — Fa ther James Keller, M. M., founder and director of the Christophers, will preach the sermon at the 15th annual Labor Day Mass to be offered here in Holy Name Cathedral on September 1. News Service) MIAMI, Fla., — Max Kram, whose money-making religious trinket enterprises have been in and out of the news frequent ly since 1955 is back in business again under the name “Relig ious Products of America.” Mr. Kram, who declared him self bankrupt in 1957, is now offering to Catholics through the mail a small, plastic four- inch high ,statue of the Blessed- Virgin Mary containing a mag net which enables it to stick to automobile dashboards. “The Magnet Auto Compan ion,” as Mr. Kram calls it, is ac companied by a notice which reads: “If this meets with your approval please insert $1 and mail in enclosed envelope.” Re plies are adressed to P. O. Box 344 at the Biscayne Annex of the Miami Post Office, the same postoffice box which Mr. Kram has used since 1956. Mr. Kram originally began operations under the title “Re ligious Products of America.” In 1956 he was forced out of busi ness by a fraud order issued by the U. S. Post Office Depart ment. Soon after a Federal Dis trict Judge upheld the Post Of fice ruling on June 12, 1956, Mr. Kram organized the new busi ness and operated until 1957 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC VICARIATE VATICAN CITY (Radio, NC) —By a decree of the Sacred Consistorial Congregation, His Holiness Pope Pius XII has erected a military vicariate in the Dominican Republic. The decree names Archbishop Ricardo Pittini, S.D.B., of Ciu dad Trujillo as military vicar and provides that in the future the post will always be held by the archbishop of that See. when he filed a petition of bank ruptcy. Until recently nothing has been heard from Mr. Kram, who has been known to send out as many as 1,125,000 mail pieces a year. The fact that the notices now read “Religious Products of America doing business as a private enterprise’ ’apparently Keeps Mr. Kram out of the clutches of the law. His son, Murray Kram, who conducted an unsolicited mail order business for crucifixes and medals in Pittsburgh, Pa., added one line to his printed sales notice which said the dollar re quested was “for the benefit of Murray Kram.” Local postal authorities say that they are at a loss to find any method of stopping the op erations of Mi. Kram and added that “thousands of devout Cath olics believe they are doing something for the Church when they shell out a dollar for one of these 10 or 15 cent plastic sta tues.” Postal authorities have re peatedly emphasized that no person is under obligation to ac cept any unsocilited articles or to mail a contribution.
