RIDDLE: What costs less
the more you use it?
ANSWER: The electricity that serves
you in your home. The more of it you use,
the bigger the bargain ... the less you pay
per kilowatt-hour. What else in your home
gives you so much value for so little cost?

Deliberate Campaign Seen
To Link Administration
With Parochial School Aid
WASHINGTON (NC) — A
deliberate campaign is under
way in some parts of the coun
try to link President Kennedy
with support for Federal aid to
parochial schools, a Congress
man has charged.
Rep. Cleveland Bailey of
West Virginia said (April 29)
he has received several hun
dred letters, mostly from small
towns in Iowa, opposing the
administration’s Federal aid to
education program because it
would allegedly give aid to pa-
rochcial schools.
As a matter of fact, however,
the administration bill would
aid only public elementary and
secondary schools.
President Kennedy has on
several occasions said across-
the-board aid to private and
parochial schools is unconsti
tutional.
Rep. Bailey, chairman of the
House education subcommittee
considering the administration
school aid bill, said he has re
ceived so many letters oppos
ing it because of its fancied
aid to parochial schools that
he is now replying to them
with a mimeographed form
letter.
The form letter reads: “I am
afraid you have been lied to.
I have had so many letters
from your area that I feel
widespread misinformation has
been circulated.”
It was reported that other
members of Congress have re
ceived similar letters, not only
from Iowa, but also from
Massachusetts, New York,

Expert Static and Dynamic Wheel

Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio,
Illinois, Kansas and Missouri.
All indicate a belief that the
administration’s school aid pro
gram would aid parochial
schools.
The letters, it was said,
have come from citizens in all
walks of life, including min
isters.
