Sol Clark was elected president of the Benedic tine Association, a newly formed or ganization of B. C. alumni and sup porters, at a well attended enthu siastic mass meeting at the school armory here recently. Serving along with Mr. Clark are Henry B. Brennan, first vice presi dent; William C. Helmly, second vice president; Joseph J. Doolan, third vice president; Julian Halligan, sec retary; Nicholas T. Stafford, trea surer. Elected to serve as an executive committee were James P. Houlihan, chairman: W. J. Bremer, Allen Craw ford, George Davis, F. T. Dooley, Peter J. Golden, Joseph F. Griffin, M. T. Hartnett, Joseph E. Kelly, M. C. McCarthy, James H. McKenna, J. J. McQuillan, Livingston McLaws, M. M. May, Peter R. Nugent, Dr. S. F. Rosen, Dan J. Sheehan, Morris Slotin and Jerome F. Sullivan. The purpose of the association, as expressed in the by-laws, is “to foster and maintain among its members love for and loyalty to Benedictine and its ideals, and to inculcate a spirit of goodfellowship and co-operation in furtherance of the interests of the Benedictine School.” Announcement was made of an other mass meeting that would be held by the association on the Tues day before Thanksgiving Day. (Special to The Bulletin) ATLANTA. Ga. — Mrs. Mary De- Gunther, widely known Atlantan, died November 1 at Tampa, Fla., at the home of her son after an illness of four months. Mrs. DeGunther was the widow of the late J. W. De Gunther, for many years proprietor of the Model Laundry. Surviving are four sons, J. J. DeGunther, Tampa; J. A. DeGunther, .Atlanta; E. J. De Gunther, Milwaukee, and William J. DeGunther, Cincinnati. The funeral was held from Sacred Heart Church with a Requiem Mass; interment was in West View Cemetery. Agatho Strittmater, O.S.B., pastor of Sacred Heart Church, here, has had reprinted in pamphlet form an article that appeared in a New York secular daily telling of the conversion of John Moody, noted financier. BRUNSWICK PARISH Women Entertain at Silver Tea BRUNSWICK, Ga. —Mrs. J. C. Stiles entertained late in October at an informal silver tea at her home for the benefit of St. Francis Xavier Church. Mrs. A. V. Dorgan assisted the guests in registering, and Mrs. J. B. Wright and daughter, Mrs. Will Parker, assisted Mrs. Stiles in re ceiving. Mrs. Leo Morrissy, Miss Eleanor Stiles and Mrs. Ben Grant ham presided in the dining room. HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S CONVENTION IN TORONTO (By N. C. W. C. News Service) WASHINGTON — The secretary of the American Catholic Historical As sociation, the Rev. Dr. Peter Guilday, professor of American Church His tory at the Catholic University of America, has announced the program of the thirteenth meeting of the as sociation to be held at Toronto, De cern 27-28. The program has been drafted by a committee of which the Rt. Rev. Msgr. James Hugh Ryan, Rector of the University is chairman. ARTHUR DOWLING HEADS 1933 GRADUATING CLASS Arthur Dowling was elected presi dent of the class of 1933 of Benedictine School at the recent election meeting. He is editor-in-chief of The Quill and has always been a class leader. David Bolin was named treasurer and Charles Whitehead general acti vities officer. Columbus Dramatic Club Scores Again Catholic Junior Stage Or ganization Presents Com edy, “A Full House” (Special to The Bulletin) COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Junior Catholic Dramatic Club presented the three-act comedy, “A Full House,” October 20 at the Chase Conserva tory of Music in a manner to win the admiration and commendation of the most severe dramatic critics. Sal- vadore Spano was director, and the members of the cast included Miss Ella Lee, Willis Radcliffe, Miss Mabel Thompson, Charles Campbell, Miss Milfred Thompson, Albert Kunze, Miss Helen Yarborough, Miss Mar gery Zettler, Joseph O’Neil, Miss Louise Starett, Miss Sara Kennon, Joseph Batastini, Lawrence Lee and Jack Brescia. This was a return per formance, due to the fine reception given the first presentation. The proceeds were for the milk fund. Pioneer Catholic of Savannah Parish Dies Miss Mary McMahon Was 94 Years of Age (Special to The Buletin) SAVANNAR, Ga.— Miss Mary Mc Mahon, one of the oldest Catholics in the Diocese of Savannah, died here November 4 at the age of 94. Mrs. McMahon was a native of Ireland, but spent most of her life in Savan nah. She is survived by a nephew, James P. McMahon, and a niece, Mrs. C. D. Keller; of Savannah. The fu neral was held from the Cathedral with a Requiem Mass; interment was in Cathedral Cemetery. DR. ALLESSI, WIDELY KNOWN DENTIST, DIES Dr. Michael C. Alessi, widely known dentist and active in fraternal organizations, died here early in No vember after an extended illness .He was a member of the Italian Society of Savannah, the Eagles and the Elks. The funeral was held from the Cath edral, with interment in Bonaventure Cemetery. KILROY-THORPE Father Grady Officiates at Savannah Marriage (Special’ to The Buletin) SAVANNAH, Ga. Rev. James H. Grady, of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, officiated October 29 at the marriage of Miss Marion Gene vieve Kilroy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kilroy, and Warren C. Thorpe, of Charleston. Mrs. M. S. Sullivan was matron of honor, and George Thorpe best man.
