Charles Repeats Lectures in Augusta Returns to Speak in St. Pat rick’s and Immaculate Con ception Parish- There (Special to The Bulletin) AUGUSTA, Ga.—Kev. Chas. Kast- ner, O. S. B., of Belmont Abbey, North Carolina, who lectured to ca pacity audiences at St. Joseph’s Au ditorium on the motion picture of the Mass, a presentation sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Societies of Sa cred Heart and St. Mary’s Churches, returned November 27, and 27, to re peat the illustrated lecture at the Church of the Immaculate Concep tion and St. Patrick’s Churches, and his second appearance here was no less successful than his first. SACRED HEART SODALITY ELECTS ITS OFFICERS Miss Rose Herman was elected pre fect of the reorganized Sodality of Sacred Heart parish here at a recent meeting. Other officers are .Miss Mary Doris vice-prefect, Miss Elea- nor Cosgrove secretary and Miss Cor nelia treasurer. Rev. J. B. Franck- hauser, S. J., is spiritual director. The reception of the sodalists will take place at Benediction on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at 6:30 p. m. IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH TO OBSERVE PATRONAL FEAST The patronal feast- of the Church of the Immaculate Conception will be observed with a Solemn High Mass at 9:30 Thursday, Very Rev. I. Lea ner, S. M. A., provincial of the So ciety of African Missions, celebrant, Rev. Leo Keenan deacon, Rev. Har old J. Barr sub-deacon, and Father Laube master of ceremonies. The sermon will be delivered by Rev. Stanislaus Bethel, S. M. A., rector of Benedictine School, Savannah. A. O. H. AUXILIARY ENTERTAINS AT TEA The Augusta Auxiliary of the An cient Order of Hibernians entertain ed with a tea December 4, Miss An ita Brittingham, president, presiding. The speaker was Richard Reid, whose subject was the achievements of the Irish people in general and the ac complishments of the A. O. H. aux iliary in particular. Mrs. J. J. Cal lahan, one of the two members ot the national board, and the first Southerner to be so honored, also spoke; Mrs. Callahan is a member of the Augusta Auxiliary. Jacksonville Council Thanksgiving Party Knights Entertain —Will Give Christmas Party for Orphans (Special to The Bulletin) JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The annual Thanksgiving party sponsored by Fa ther Maher Council, Knights of Co lumbus, for the benefit of the orphans of St. Mary’s Home was a distin guished sucl-ss. Members of several other Councils in this section, re sponded to Grand Knight H. H. Low ry’s invitation to attend. The proceeds are used for a Christmas party for the orphans. Stulb, Jr., was elected president of the Au gusta Council of the National Coun cil of Catholic Women at a recent meeting to fill a vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Mrs. T. S. Gray, who retires after two terms of effec tive service. Mrs. Stulb was former ly vice president of the Council from St. Patrick’s parish. The other offi cers are Mrs. Edward Schweers, vice president from Sacred Heart parish, Mrs. M. J. Hallahan, vice president from St. Mary’s, Mrs. B. B. Boeck- man secretary and Mrs. John Burke treasurer. ROTARIANS HEAR TALK O NSPANISH IN GEORGIA ‘‘Georgia Before the Pilgrims”, was the subject of an address given by Richard Reid before the Rotary Club of Augusta at its post-Thanksgiving luncheon. The talk was broadcast over WRDW. Mr. Reid asserted that Georgia has a definite, continuous history which is older than that of any other of the thirteen original colonies, and cited works of the Uni versity of North Carolina and of the University of California to prove his position. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HAVE MEMORIAL EXERCISES Dr. John Brittingham and James B. Mulherin were the principal speakers at the memorial exercises of Patrick Walsh Council, Knights of Columbus, November 20. Grand Knight John T. Buckley presided, assisted by Deputy Grand Knight James B. Kearney and other officers of the Council. Rev. A. J. Laube, S. M. A., delivered the invocation. Members of the Council who have passed away dur ing the year were John J. Conlon, Sr., Joseph Zeller, Harry J. O’Con nor, who died in San Francisco, and Wm. A. McCarthy of Sandersville. Out of some 70 students of the school, at the beginning of the epidemic, there returned about a dozen. After the names were called, so many times the answer was “Dead.” She also tells of the orphaned little one:, who, in some cases, were taken from burning homes, and safely housed in St. Pet er’s Orphanage, their patrimony gone, not a dollar left i.i the world. Rela tives, too, in many cases were lost, for many Memphians left the city never to return.
