C. C. M.’s emphatic opposition to the prop aganda for Birth Control and Human Sterilization; condemned the distri bution of immoral literature and commend the efforts of the authori ties in those localities where the sale of such literature has been suc cessfully combatted; declared that “the foundations of an honest nation find their material in Christian edu cation, instituted in the home, de veloped in the Catholic schools, colleges and universities, and pro ducing its perfect fruit through the acceptance of the principles of justice and charity laid down by Catholic doctrine;” pledged the N. C. C. Purcell, of Kansas City, Mo., was elected President of the National Council of Catholic Men, succeeding Walter T. Johnson, of Kenton, O., who had completed several terms in office. Joseph M. Tally, of Providence. R. I., was re-elected Vice President of the Council, and Francis R. Lowther, of St. Louis, was renamed Treasurer. Dr. B. H. Swint, of Charleston, W. Va., was elected Secretary. J. Rogers Flannery, of Pittsburgh; Bernard J. Rothwell, of Boston, and John R. Darrouzet, of Galveston, Tex., were elected members of the Executive Committee. In addition to 175 delegates regis tered from various parts of the country, the conference was attended by a large number of visitors. In his presidential address, Mr. Johnson declared that the N. C. C. M. included as members 1,470 subor dinate units, and that the member ship roll, which has shown no de crease from last year, gives the Coun cil representation in 34 States and 90 diocese.
