News Service) GARRISON, N. Y. — Honored by a message of congratulations from His Holiness Pope Pius XI and cor dial greetings irom other high dig nitaries of the Church the Very Rev. Paul James Francis, S. A., founder and Superior General of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor, here, and originator of the Church Unity Octave, celebrated the 75th anniversary of his birth January 16. Prominent speakers ad dressed the gathering, extolling Fath er Paul for his magnificent achieve ment in transforming the wilderness of Graymoor into a monument to the glory of God. Friar-Priests who served their no vitiate at Graymoor are now engag ed in missionary work in Canada, in Ireland and in various sections of the United States. Father Paul’s com passion for suffering humanity is evidenced in the great philanthropic work which has been conducted through the years at St. Christoph er’s Inn. New Year Ushered in at Cathedral by Exposition of Blessed Sacrament SAVANNAH, Ga.—The New Year was ushered in at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist by Nocturnal Adora tion, men of the parish spending one hour before the Blessed Sacrament in groups from 8 o’clock New Year’s Eve until 6 o’clock New Year’s morning. WM. A. SAUNDERS was re-elected president of the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church at the annual meeting held in the parish school. John G. Butler, Jr., was re-elected vice president, John M. Brennan, sec retary, George J. Cleary, treasurer, and William Broderick, marshal. ..THE CATHEDRAL has installed for trial purposes an electric organ used for the first time Christmas at the Midnight Mass, of which Bishop O’Hara was celebrant. James B. Copps, Cathedral organist, directed the mu sical program. BISHOP O’HARA pronounced the invocation at the Savannah obser vance of the sesquicentennial of the ratification of the Constitution of the United States. Judge Blanton Fortson of Athens was the principal speaker. 9 GAMES ARRANGED BY MARIST COLLEGE (Special to The Bulletin) ATLANTA, Ga- — Marist College has arranged nine games for its 1938 football schedule, as follows: Sep tember 23, North Fulton High; Sep tember 30, Tech High; October 7, Co lumbus Industrial at Columbus; 14th, Rome at Rome; 21st, Decatur at De catur; 28th, Boys’ High; November 4, Benedictine College at Savannah; 11th, Commercial High; 18th, Rich mond Academy at Augusta; 25th, Georgia Military Academy. Septem ber 16 is an open date. MARIST COLLEGE lettermen, awarded their emblems at the annual banquet held at the Ansley Hotel, were “Yank” Cumber worth, Bobby Wright, “Peg” Tyson, Gus Hendry, Harry Leatherwood, Joe Anderson, Charles Hopkins. M., director of athletics, and Coach Louis Van Houten- LUDOWICI PARISHONER James Arnold DuFour Loses Life by Drowning LUDOWICI, Ga.—Funeral services for James Arnold DuFour were held here recently, with the Rev. Jos. G. Callaghan, S. M„ of Brunswick, of ficiating. Interment was in Elim Cemetery. Mr. DuFour lost his life Christmas Day when the boat in which he and two other men were fishing in Dunn’s lake capsized. Mr. DuFour was a member of the Catholic Church at Ludowici. THE JEWISH WHO’S WHO lists 54 persons who profess Christianity, including 18 Episcopalians, seven Ca tholics, seven Presbyterians, seven Christian Scientists, five Baptists, four Unitarians, two Congregational ism, two Methodists, and one Luthe ran, Quaker and Greek Orthodox Church member. Included are three priests and 15 Protestant ministers. MSGR. P. S. DURANLEAU will be consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Sherbrooke, Quebec, February 24th, by Cardinal Villeneuve, Archbishop of Quebec. WILLIAM J. RIORDAN IS DEAD IN ATLANTA ATLANTA, Ga.—William J. Rior- dan, a member of the choir of the Church of the Immaculate Concep tion, died early in January at the age of 68. Mr. Riordan was a native of Atlanta and a pioneer cotton buy er, having succeeded his father in a business which was started in 1870. Mr. Riordan was active in religious, as well as business affairs. He was a member of the Knights of Colum bus for many years. Surviving are his wife; six daugh ters, the Misses Kathleen and Rose Riordan and Mrs. W. H. Phillips, all of Atlanta, Miss Marie Riordan of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. J. C. Hanley, of Terre Haute, Ind., and Mrs. H. C. Allen fo Chicago; a son, William J. Riordan, Jr.; three sisters, the Misses Julia and Nell Riordan, both of Los Angeles, and Miss Mary Frances, of Atlanta, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Immaculate Concep tion, with the Rev. Joseph Smith-of ficiating at the Requiem Mass. In terment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
