Neel, Jr., Post No. 3, of this city, to outstand ing boys of the seventh grade of the public and parochial schools of Bibb County, ■was won this year by John Joseph (Jack) Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs Clark A. Davis, of St. Joseph’s Parochial School. The trophy was presented by a delegation of five Le gionnaires headed by Past Comman der John J. McCreary at the closing of the school term. At die June meeting of the Legion the eighteen winners of the award, with their parents and teachers, were guests of honor and were introduced to the Legion and its Auxiliary. Past Commander Usher T. Winslett, chair man of the Committee on School Awards since its inception, presided at the meeting and explained that the purpose of giving this recognition to boys is to inspire them to develop lat ent qualities of leadership in order that future emergencies may be ade quately met. A letter to him from Father T. James McNamara, Diocesan Superintendent of Schools. com mending this patriotic program in en thusiastic terms, was read to the meeting and ordered entered on the minutes. Mr. Winslett announced that up to this year, 292 trophies had been awarded, and that his observation is that the beys who were leaders in the grammar schools likewise were us ually leaders in high schools, col lege, and in business or professional life. St. Joseph’s Parochial School has been included in the program since the movement was inaugurated in 1923. Augusta | IMMACULATE CONCEPTION I J CHURCH v ^ <> O- O— ST.
