Dear Brother Hauks:—l have a
desire this morning to write you
some of my feelings, as 1 hope has I
been-the dealings of the Lor i with <
*me. Although I feel so weak and i
unworthy, I hardly know how to ’
commence. I feel that the deal- t

lam often cast down and made t
to mourn on the account of sin I
and unfitness, but while I am cast <
down and made to feel my weak
ness and impurity here in this
unfriendly world,l can not bear my
part with the patience that Job did.
But I know there is a blessed
Savior who is able and willing to
Leal all our wounds and afflictions
and make our path straight. Christ
has borne all that we have W oare
and even died that we might live.
He tells us in his blessed word.
“I go to prepare a place for you,
and if I go and prepare a place
for you, 1 will come again and re
ceive you unto myself that where
I am, there ye may be also,” I am
’ ’ so often made to see, and feel, my
nothingness in the sight of our
heavenly Master until I often
feel as the apostle ‘-with
in me there dwelleth no
thing,” and within myself I can
do nothing But send up praises to
his holy name for what he has
done for me. I have done nothing
for him, but he has done it all for
me. I have always tried to live a
moral life, but I often find my
self out of the way, yeilding to

the flesh. We are all ot eucn a
deprived nature, so vile, so prone
to sin, till xvo always ‘choose evil,
rather than good. I have mooved
along from my youth to the pres
ent time, ia siu tmd transgression,
and have often thought what
would- become of me in the last
day, if I went on in this way. But
this would soon ware off, and I
would not become so seriously
troubled about my future destiny,
• until about six or eight months
ago, when I became more deeply
impressed to join the Old Primitive
Baptist church, and live with the
* people whom I so much loved
and believed in. But I could see
no goodness and fitness in myself,
- and could never fee] fit and wor
thy to offer my feeble sjelf to the
church, and so I would go on with
T

i Lever cbme: none of us feel fit to
s be there. Ido not feel fit or
worthy to be there but this bur
, den and impressions that I have
, been carrying has .brought me
there. I procrastinated and car
ried it as long as I could. The night
before I was baptised the next
day, was a night that will alwavs
be remembered by me as a night
of wW. Surely that was the most
miserable night I.have ever expe
rienced. Oh wretched me! how little
and insignificant I felt myself to
be, and it seemed to me that of
all the little things of this world
Lfalt myself to ba the least of ail,
and I wottfd have bean willing
to exchanged places with the most
uusiguificant being. I tried for re
lief to my poor soul to pray and
ask the good Lord what would
he have me to do, that I might
be relieved of this trouble and it
appeared to me that, a voice spoke
to mo and said. Go and join the
church and be baptised and you
will find rest for your weary soul,
and after I heard this voice I was
then made willing to go.
And after I went and joined the
church and was baptised I foufid
that sweet rest there that I had so
much desired. I felt that I had dis
charged my duty and I was then
relieved of that burden that I had
been carrying, and oh how much
better I lelt. The teil was then re
moved from over , my face and I
could then begin to see and realize
things that I had never been able
to see before, I could then begin
to realize what joy and comfort
there was there for the weary seul
but I could not see it while on the
out side and my experience is tli°* i
