Ei.dmk A. V. Simms:—
D«ar Brother in Christ; Please
publish the following in your dear
paper, as I feel it will give me some
consolation in my sore bereavment :
Farris Vinson Roberts, oldest child
of Harley J. and Labra W
departed this life Nov. Sth 1896, after
a brief illness of eight days with
Pneumonia, at tile age ot eight years,
one month, and twenty-four days.
Yes, little “Flint”—af he was called—
is not,for the Lord hath taken him;
and his dear mother -seemed almost
heart-broken with grief, lift you
brother Simms, came to her in her
sleep and spoke such words of com
fort to her troubled heart, t hat she wa?
enabled to say, “Not- my will, but
tnine, Oh Lord, be done.’’ We all miss
him so much; yet we know he han
escaped the trials and troubles of this
unfriendly world. And by this happy
exchange, he is now enjoying a life of
eternal happiness and bliss.
M. A. Bass.
Also Mary Lou Bass, youngest child
of John H. and Martha A. Bass de
parted this life Jan-. 6,1897. at the age
of ten years, ten months and twenty
seven days. Her sufferings were
short but severe, she was sick only a
little more than three days; we could
get no Doctor to her. We suppose
she died of Hemoragic fever, with con
gestion of the stomach and bowels.
She bore her sufferings without a mur
mur, saying only one time, -‘Mama, I
can’t stand it.” She fell asleep With
out a struggle.
Oh dear people of God, pray for me
in my bereaved, lonely condition; —
pray that I may be reconciled to the
will of Him who doeth all things well.
Little Mary Lou hath left us,
And it fills our hearts with pain;
But it’s God who has bereft us,
And her we hope to meet again.
Yes, we feel her angel spirit
Is now singing around God’s throne;
And no hand can disinherit,
For God hath taken her, his own.
Rut my poor heart is grieved so sore
That all my,lime in sorrow is spent,
Yet she is Gmi’s forevermore,
And upto me was only lent.
Yet she did seem my ohomesf flower
That t hus the Lord tHnoplgnU d above,
Yet in his garden, he’ll embower
Her with eternal peace and love
And when for me, time is no more —
When death shall claim mean his own,
Oh then with Joyed ones gone before,
Lord let me gal her around thy throne.

Elder A. V. Simms: —
Dear Brother In Christ : I feel
inclined to write a low lines for
the Banner, but my feeing so
mean and unworthy seems to tor
bid it. Yet if sister Phillips can
see fit to give them space in the
paper, from such an unworthy
creature, then all right; let her
and the waste-basket deside.
Sometimes I feel like nay hope
in Jesus has almost expired; it
gets so small that it seems as if
the last spark will vanish ; and so
leaves me in such darkness, I can
scarcely realize I have a hope ; and
if a saint at all I feel the least
ot all. Sometimes I feel that
jiurelv I must have been deceived,
And have deceived the dnar people
of God ; for if ever 1 had receiv
ed the mercy and grace of God
in the pardon of my sins, I would
not feel so unworthy to have and
claim a home with Gods dear peo
ple. God forbid that I should so
deceive myself, and especially the
saints. Sometimes I think it is
by the grace of God I am what I
am; and that without these feel
ings of self-loathing and uuwor
thiness, Imight be in a worse state
of self-righteousness. When I
think of the passage of scripture
that reads “you may know that
you have passed from death to
life, because you love the breth
ren,” it is some consolation tdsuch
poor hobbling creatures as I, for I
am a great complainer that bears
the name of Christ” Oh I do hope
and want to bear, not only the
name, but also the image of Christ.
If there are any people in this
world that I do love, it is the people
that has the name of Primitive
Baptist. I love them, I have 4con
fidence in them as being one.
If I have but little or none in
myself as being unworthy to be
numbered ono with them. Ido
have it in them, aud esteem them
•o highly. And after all my bad
feelings and doubts and fears, I do
still h 've and claim a little hope.
Oh blessed hope! how could I live
and get along without it? It is
what keeps me moving on in this
sinful world of sorrow and tribu
lations. So I subscribe myself—
your little sister in hope of eter
nal life through Jesus Christ.
H. E. Walker.
Langley, Ark., Jan. 96.
Sister Phillips:—The Banner
for January Ist is to hand, and I
have looked it over. I felt some
what troubled in spirit alter read
ing the articles of Elders Simms
and Bartley as touching on salva
tion from sin and death in this
life. Both have written ably and
at great length on the subject. I
suppose it will be noticed that
Eld. B. argues that the spirit of
grace in the hearts ot the Lord’s
believing children is the source of
al] true devotion to the Lord, to
which I have no idea that Eld. S.
objects. But what and if—as is
many times the case—after they
have been illuminated by the
spirit of grace, they turn again to
•‘beggarly elements” aud walk af
ter the world? Now as Eld. B. no
ticed but one side of the question,
and Eld. S. both, there seemed to
be a good deal of difference be
tween them. Eld. B, alter quot
ing Paul at some length, says
‘‘now then let us briefly consider
Paul as.our pattern, because that
which was true in him, is also true
in us; and certainly none of all
the saved in Christ have more
abounded in obedience unto him
•than his servant Paul.” Amen!
But was not Paul in many respects
a man of like passions with other
men? If so, he endured a great
tight of afflictions in keeping his
body under, but by any means as
ter that he had preached the gos
pel toothers, he himselt should be
a castaway. Oh that saiths ul wit
ness the Elder has introduced! —
the testimony of whom shows to
many of us that much is lacking
ou our part, thereby pilingthat
we are carnal and walk as men,
striving about words to no profit;
but much is said that has a ten
dency to subvert and confuse the
hearers. I must confess my sur
prise at the way in which Eld. B.
has handled the subject under
consideration: —I say surprised,
because it does look like a man of
his age, experience, and knowl
edge of the testimony of God
would not—could not differ from
the views expressed by Elder
Simms. But Eld. B. Seems to
think that because of age, and his
agreement with some of the old
soldiers of the cross—the “fathers”
—is sufficient reasons for his be
ing right, and for Eld. S. to back
down, A “thus saith the Lord’ -
is what we all want.
Now sister Phillips, I do not
write you this letter that I may
appear approved in the Lord’s
sight; for I do not so feel much of
my time. It is very strange to
me that a witness like the ; aged
Eld. B makes the sad mistake of
not noticing the fact that the same
authors of whom he has learned
So much about the work of grace
in the hearts pf Hod’s children,
teach also that many of them are
much unlike the pattern he in
troduced by which to measure the
whole household of faith in this
time world. Now that the spirit
of grace=-in the heads of all God’s
manifest and does
teach them that they should deny
all ungodliness, and worldly lust,
and live soberly, righteouly, and
godly in this present world, is not
denied. But the question is; do they
all obey, or do so, as did Paul?
Surely pot. And just here, ifEld.
B. together with others of the
Lord’s ministers, would dp their
duty as Eld. S. in warning the des
odedient, it would be better, and
manv of the back sliding ones,
would emerge to adorn the temple
of God.

IMPORTANT NOTICE.
Many ot our subscribers are badly
in errears with their subscriptions—
some one and others two years and
more. These amounts are small in
themselves but when put together, if
paid, would enable us to pay off a debt
which gives us much concern and un
rest. If these just accounts remain
unpaid it will cripple the Bannlb per
haps seriously. It takes money to
publish a paper, and if we fail in col
lecting for our labor and expense we
cannot run. Will those whu owe us,
kindly think of us in our needs, and
remit as soon as possible, and thus
enable us to meet our obligations for
money; or if you cant pay, will you
kindly drop us a card and let us hear

neuralgia etc.-
1 use no medicine and I would not
take S2OO for the benefit I have derived
from it. Every family should have

Durden of Math, Ga., of brights’ dis
ease.
John Temple Graves of Atlanta, Ga.,

it has been so beneficial to him. It
cured iJder D. Bartley, of Crawford

years standing. Elder John L. Boyd,
Hanaker, Va., says that he would not
take SSOO for his Oxydonor, it has been
such a blessing to him. Elder E. E.
Kenmor Olivere, Va., writes: I have
used the Oxydonor in my family for
about 10 jnpnt|iß apd not take
SIOOO for the benefit T have received to
tors bm. Sister Laura Laue
ton, Ga., had not stood alone for over
two year until she used the Oxydonor
and now she is walking and in better
health than she has had for several
years. Medicines and doctors failed
in her case, but the Oxy donor did the
work. I could refer to many cases
but it is useless.
