pressing our vluv point* In behalf
of said name for name for our em

much has been hoid pro‘and con
about the "Hillbilly.” When the
name was fimt suggested, the stu
dents Immediately adopted It by a
cant of votes. Of lute they have
changed their minds, being unable
to decide what they desire. Vari
ous reasons have been given for
this change. Let us go Into an
analysis of these reasons, thereby
being able to form a better opin
ion ind reach a stronger
lon.
It is the belief of some that the
name ‘■Hillbilly’' will bo changed
In the minds of the public to
"Blllygoat,” and that this name

low opponents, can you not take a
little Joke? Are your little hearts
so dignified as to be unable to
withstand a few “Baa's” from
across the street? The public 1s
going to choose some humorous
remark to rag us with at the first
of school, and why not lot it be the
name underwhlch our athletic
teams shall play?
The Naval Academy at Annapol
is has the goat for Us emblem. Do
you, worthy opponents, think your
self better lhan the boys in the
highest ranking naval academy in
the world. The army has the mule
for its emblem. The army is not
he hawed at; do you not think
yourself jnl'allible enough to be
critlctHed a little Maybe? this old
saying gives the reason for your op
position: "The truth Is what

hurts.” Maybe you are hardheauki
and do not desire the truth to be I
told.
The section which your repre
sent Is known as the Piedmont
section. It is the section of hills.
Are you ashamed of your hills?
You are known the state over as
the hillbillies. D the truth still
boring you? Auburn men are
known as the Plainsmen, for the
simple reason that they live on the
plains, Sewaneee men are known
as the Mountaineers, only because
they live in the mountains. As na-1
tives of the hilly section, are you
going to be ashamed to admit the
place you are from? Surely not
The above mentioned schools have
two names , Auburn, the Plains
men, but due to the fact that this
names suggests no emblem, they
also call themselves the Tigers.
Nearly all colleges have two
names, we would be setting no
precedent if we chose a “more dig
nified” name for our second name.
To those who think they shall
be drowned by the “Baa’s” of the
outside, we wish to remind them
of this characteristic of goats.
Goats fight for their rights and de
manu respect. Just play with their
mustache and see where they will
set you.
There is the opinion that all goats
are hard headed. If tin incident of
the Three Billygoai Gruffs is re
called, it will be remembered that i
they keenly outwitted their oppon- j
ent.
Now, fell )\v opponents, we only :
ask you to forget your great dig- i
niiy and your unsurpassed and un- i
i mailed wisdom long enough to j
give our Forum your conaidera-!
tion. Carefully weigh our argu
ments and he assured that the
adoption of the “Hillbilly” will not
purloin (he lest of your much ador
ed dignity.
