Name: Renee Grier-Calhoun
Title: Administrative Assistant,
Science and Mathematics
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.
Tenure at Morehouse: 14 years
(8 in current office)
Something not commonly
known about Renee:
She has written five children’s
books based on the adventures
of an elephant named
Poppo. She also is writing an
autobiography.
^ lam the first person you see when you walk into this office. I meet everyone from campus
visitors on tours, to students, to faculty members. So I’m the greeter for this office, which really
isn t something that s hard for me. I spend most of my time keeping up with Dean John Haynes’
meetings, his travels, correspondence, requests for letters of recommendation, classes and his
mentoring of students. I make sure he has his schedule and that he follows it.
I really love interacting with students because they bring a wealth of diversity and intelligence
from every realm that you can think of. Most of these young men are medical school-bound, so
they have a huge challenge, as their program is extremely rigorous. So students really need men
toring, not just during midterms or finals, but every day.
