Firmin “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” Matthew 28:19-20. J esus, in his last words on earth, gave this com mand to the apostles and through them - to us. We, as followers of Christ, are called to evangelize, to bring the Gospels to others. However, you and I may not be able to be full time missionaries in Africa, India, or the poor islands in the Caribbean, but we can and must support our brothers and sis ters who do this good work to build the kingdom of God and spread the Gospel to the far reaches of the earth. On the weekend of September 23-24, thirteen parishes across the diocese will host missionary speakers representing 10 mission organizations as a part of the 2017 Diocese of Savannah Mission Cooperative Plan. (See the table on the right.) These bishops, priests, sisters, brothers, and laity bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to men, women, and children throughout the world in a variety of ways. Through their charity they establish and teach in schools or run health clinics and hospitals. Some of them establish parishes and missions for the local diocese. Responding to this appeal contributes to the mis sionary endeavors of our brothers and sisters, assist ing in the spreading of the Gospel to all nations. This is an opportunity for all of us to participate in an essential dimension of our Christian vocation - the call to evangelize. May each of us give generously from our hearts following that Great Commandment of Jesus at the end of the Gospel of Matthew, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” Father Daniel F.
