GEORGIA Three Pansies Clarkesville And Atlanta Assignments In Education St. Jude's Parish The establishment of three new parishes in the Archdio cese was announced this week by Archbishop Paul J. Hallinan. The new parish of The Holy Spirit in the city of Atlanta is formed from the Cathedral of Christ the King parish; the new Holy Cross parish em braces the Tucker-Doraville area and the whole of Gwinnett county. The third new parish of St. Mark has been formed in North Georgia at Clarks ville in Habersham County, formerly a part of Mother of Our Divine Saviour Parish of Taccoa, Stephens County. Pastor of Holy Spirit Church is the Rev. John F. McDonough, former pastor of St. Mary's, Rome. The Rev. Leonard F. X. Mayhew, former pastor of St. Peter’s, LaGrange, will as sume the pastorate of Holy Cross. Rev. Bernard Quinn, of the Glenmary Home Mis sioned, presently stationed in North Carolina, will become administrator of St. Mark’s, Clarkesville. Stephens, Franklin, and Hart Counties). 1963, since which time he has been at the Cathedral. Father Calhoun, 31, was edu cated at Booker T. Washington High School and Morehouse Col lege, Atlanta. He became a con vert to the Church in 1945 and was confirmed that year at Wiesbanden, Germany, while serving in the U. S. Air Force. He later entered St. Philip Neri Latin School for Delayed Voca tions at Haverhill, Mass., grad uating from there in 1957. The same year he entered St. Mary’s Seminary and has earned a Bachelor’s in Philosophy, a Bachelor’s in Sacred Theology and a Licentiate in Sacred Theo logy (equivalent to a Master’s degree). He is a native of Car rollton, Georgia. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred D. Calhoun, lived at 135 Griffin St., Atlanta. A new Vice-Chancellor, and the appointment of two priests to the faculty of St. Joseph’s High School were also among the changes announced this week by Archbishop Hallinan. GWINNETT GO. Biographies of Pastors Involved in Changes Follow Father McDonough was bom in South Boston, Mass, and was ordained at Holy Cross Cathe dral, Boston, by Richard Car dinal Cushing, May, 1941. He was assistant at St. Zepheryn, Cochituate, Mass, from June, 1941 to Sept., 1941; assistant at St. Joseph's, Ipswich, Mass., Sept., 1941 to Sept., 1944; U.S. Army Captain at Ft. McClel lan, Ala., from Oct., 1944 to Nov., 1946; assistant at Christ the King Cathedral, Jan., 1947 to Sept., 1956, From Sept., 1956 to June, 1959 he was Pastor of St. Peter’s, La- Grange; from June, 1959 to June, 1964, pastor of St. Mary’s, Rome. In May, 1962 he was appointed Archdiocesan Con- suitor and in June, 1964, Vicar Forane (Dean) of the North west Deanery. The Rev. Noel Burtenshaw, assistant at the Cathedral of Christ the King, has been ap pointed Vice-Chancellor. DORAVILLE ^ HOLY CROSS PARISH (Also includes all of Gwinnett C n ty) The Rev. Matthew W. Kemp, assistant at St. Thomas More, Decatur, and the Rev. William Calhoun, presently at Catholic University of America, are as signed to the faculty of St. Joseph's High School. Both priests have Master’s degrees in education. GWINNETT CO, Assumption Parish Father Burtenshaw was bom Dec. 12, 1936 in Dublin, Ire land, the youngest son of Fred erick and Christina Burten shaw. He attended the Central Model School in Dublin, then Mount Melleray Seminary in County Waterford, and All Hal lows Major Seminary' in Dublin. He was ordained in All Hallows June 17, 1962 and was appointed assistant pastor at St. Thomas More August, 1962 until June, Father Kemp, age 25, was educated in schools in Washing ton, D.C., Virginia, Decatur and Clinton, Conn. He attended St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, Conn., before entering St. Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore. He has earned a Bachelor’s in Philosophy, a Bachelor’s in Theology, and a Master's De gree in Education at Loyola College, Baltimore. His par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew W. Kemp, live in Clinton, Con necticut. TUCKER Father Quinn, 35, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a member of the Glenmary Mis sioned, having studied at Glen mary Seminary, Cincinnati, (CONTINUED ON PAGE 8) Howell Vista The Verona Fathers who formerly served the original Toccoa parish have withdrawn from the area. The Glenmary Home Missioners will assume the care of the new Clarkes ville parish, while an Arch diocesan priest assumes the care of the Toccoa parish.
