GEORGIA BULLETIN, THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 1968 11 « m 4 Behold The Man 9 Will Bring Together Christian Churches “Behold the Man,” a drama of the life of Christ, will bring'' Christians of all traditions together to give meaning to Christianity in our time. Sponsored by the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta, a non-profit organization, “Behold The Man” will be presented at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, in Atlanta Stadium. Dr. William Holmes Borders, ' pastor of the Wheat Street Baptist Church, will portray Christ in the religious drama. Dr. Borders, a native of Macon, holds honorary degrees from six universities. He received a B.A. degree from IMorehouse College and a B.D. degree from Garrett Seminary at Northwestern University. He has initiated such programs as an active job placement center, a day-care nursery for 100 children and a $5.5 million dollar housing project. More than 2,000 choir members representing churches throughout greater Atlanta will sing in a combined community choir. Frank Marshall Roughton, internationally known as an actor DR. BORDERS Catechetics Course Will Open Monday A catechetics course for parents and teachers in the archdiocese will begin Monday at St. Jude’s parish, Sandy Springs, and will continue through Sept. 8. The course will be taught by Sisters Kathleen Marie McGowan and Sister Mary Rebecca Rodriguez, members of the Community of Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart. She trains lay catechists, supervises schools of religion and teaches grade-school children. In the fall, she will work in Ithaca, N.Y. Sister Mary Rebecca has worked in the Diocese of Tuscon, Ariz., and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Working in an Arizona mission, she taught children and teen-agers, covering an extensive territory of schools of religion. In Baltimore, she trained lay catechists for service in elementary and high schools of religion. In September, Sister Mary Rebecca will work in the Diocese of Brooklyn’s CCD and vocation programs. The schedule includes: Monday through Friday (Aug. 26-Sept. 6)--12:30-3 p.m., basic catechist course; 7:30 to 10 p.m. • a&d director of Biblical productions, is producer and director. A graduate of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Roughton has portrayed Christ more than 1,000 times in “Sermon On The Mount” and is well known in the Southeast for his portrayals. “Behold The Man” will feature settings designed to recreate an authentic atmosphere of the time of Christ and are valued at more than $26,000. Costumes have been constructed following authentic designs researched by the staff of the Atlanta Public Library and are valued at $25,000. “Behold The Man” has received national and international attention. More than 1,000 churches in the Atlanta area and throughout Georgia are participating in this production by providing choir members, selling tickets and offering their support to the undertaking.
