6 GEORGIA BULLETIN, THURSDAY, AUGUST, 29, 1968 St. Joseph’s Names Medical Staff Chief The Board of Trustees, Saint Joseph’s Infirmary, announcesthe election of Dr. William F. Friedewald to the office of Chief of the Medical Staff at Saint Joseph’s Infirmary. This office has recently been redesignated from a voluntary position filled on a part time basis by a practicing physician selected from the medical staff to that of a full time position financed by the hospital. Under this new concept, Dr. Friedewald will devote his entire efforts, at Saint Joseph’s Infirmary, toward solving the increasing complex medical care problems encountered in hospitals today. His appointment is effective Sept. 1. A native of Missouri, Dr. Friedewald attended college and medical school at St. Louis University. Having been awarded a B. S. and an M. D. from St. Louis University, Dr. Friedewald served his internship and residency at St. Louis City Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Friedewald worked in the area of virus and cancer research for the Rockefeller Institute and Rockefeller Foundation from 1938-1945. He came to Atlanta in 1945 and was associated with Emory University School of Medicine as Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr.Friedewald also served as Chief of the Contagious Disease Unit at Grady Hospital until 1951. Dr. Friedewald has been in private practice in Atlanta since 1951, and has been a member of the Medical Staff at Saint Joseph’s since then. Plllf 1s§ 7-ii DR. FRIEDEWALD Won’t Change Ratings, NCOMP Secretary Says NEW YORK (RNS)-Father Patrick J. Sullivan, S.J., has denied that the National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures is going to end its classification system. “We are not planning the abandonment of ratings,” the NCOMP executive secretary told Religious News Service. Father Sullivan’s comment was prompted by press Corps F. Douglas Stephens AGENT 403 W. DORAVILLE, GA. 451-5097 that the Catholic film office was considering a change in operations which included elimination of its traditional system of rating the moral value of motion pictures. The basis for the report was a news story which noted that the NCOMP had published for the first time an account of a resolution from the French-Canadian Catholic Film Office. The resolution was presented by the Canadian unit at the annual conference of the International Catholic Film Office (OCIC) at the 1967 Berlin Film Festival. It declared that the “moral classification of films such as presently done by most of the national film offices does not respond to the conditions of a pastoral ministry adapted to our time.” In urging the abandonment of the current “Negative categories,” the resolution asked the film offices to replace the moral classifications with “mainly a service giving information about the human and Christian value of films.” & r cni5^ EXTRA' iamJicJ IXXWUU'4 gS53Eg, =s KrtSK.1l fSv) EXTRA...
