TRAVELERS AID OF METROPOLITAN
ATLANTA offers help to those traveling through
the area who might be stranded or in need of
relocation assistance. The organization will hold a
training class for potential volunteers Wed., Aug. 24
from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Travelers Aid
central office, 110 Spring St. in NW Atlanta

THE ARCHDIOCESAN FORUM ON THE
CATECHUMENATE will meet Wed. Sept. 28 from 10
a.m.-4 p.m. for a workshop featuring Miss Patricia
Barbenitz of the Paulist Evangelization Center in Wash.,
D.C. Topics will include identifying and finding inquirers,
developing an appropriate curriculum and utilizing
sponsors and teams. Registration open to all involved in

Cobb County Right-to-Life will present “A TIME
FOR LIFE” Thurs. Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Cobb Civic Center in Marietta. The presentation
lasts 45 mins, and includes refreshments and a

DR. M. SCOTT PECK, author of “The Road Less
Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values
and Spiritual Growth,” will be in Atlanta for the second
time this year in early September. He will be at St.
Joseph’s Hospital for a three-day seminar Sept. 9-11,
which includes a workshop for 40 participants that is
already completely filled. However, two lectures to be
given by Dr. Peck will be open to the public. The first,
Friday evening, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. will be on The
Taste for Mystery.” The second, Sat. morning at 10 a.m.,
will be entitled: “Science and Religion: Divorce and
Remarriage.” Lectures are $15 each; lunch Sat. $3.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DIRECTORS AND
COORDINATORS will gather at the Stone Mountain
Grist Mill Pavillion Wed. Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. for the annual
commissioning and eucharistic liturgy. This event is
sponsored by the Office of Religious Education and is
open to all catechetical leaders of the archdiocese. The
theme is “Called To Be Enterprising Stewards,” which is
the theme for Catechetical Sunday 1983. For

CONGRATULATIONS!!! to Brother Vincent McGuire,
son of Mr. and Mrs. John McGuire of St. Joseph’s Church
in Athens, who completed his novitiate and took simple
vows as a Bendictine monk on the Feast of St. Benedict at
Belmont Abbey in North Carolina. Brother Vincent will
return to the Abbey to continue his juniorate formation
after a month at St. Benedict’s Abbey in Kansas.
The parishes of St. Francis in Blairsville and St.
Paul in Cleveland celebrate priesthood in a special
way this Saturday, Aug. 20. John Brown,
seminarian, will be installed as acolyte after the
6:30 p.m. Mass in Blairsville on Saturday by Father
Frank Ruff, the president of Glenmary Home
Missioners. Father Ruff served in these two parishes
from 1964-69. St. Francis parish is also bidding
farewell to Rudy Davenport as he begins his studies
in the seminary at Hales Comer, Wisconsin. A
covered dish meal will be served by the parish after
the 6:30 liturgy.
THE GEORGIA TECH INTENSIVE ENGLISH
PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS announces its
“House an International Student Program.” Students
from around the world, including Europe, the Middle
East, the Far East, and Latin America come to study
English at Georgia Tech each quarter. Many of these
students wish to live with American families in order to
improve their English and to get a feel for life in the
United States. Students have their own funds for housing
accommodations and a suitable payment arrangement can
be worked out by both parties. For more information,

CORPUS CHRISTI CHURCH in Stone Mountain
will hold their third annual Gigantic Garage Sale of
2500 families Aug. 26 from 8-5 p.m. and Aug. 27

Interrelated Volunteer Program of DeKalb County needs
volunteer teacher assistants in elementary schools to
reinforce skills, grade papers, answer questions, etc. No

“COCAINE: THE SOCIALLY ACCEPTED
MENACE” is the topic for a public seminar

GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY will offer a free
program for women interested in returning to college,
Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Entitled “Open Sesame,”
the program features a panel discussion on “Returning to
College: Pitfalls and Potential,” a tour of the campus and
an information marketplace staffed by faculty and staff of
GSU. Participants will receive information on admissions,
courses, student services, fees and other aspects of college
