The Slagles, whose oldest child is 19, celebrated their 20th wed ding anniversary on Feb. 4. Strong in family love and commitment and dedicated supporters of crisis pregnancy work for many years, the Slagles were chosen by The Georgia Bulletin as Persons of the Year for 1985 because of their Christian commit ment and witness under dif ficult circumstances. In a conversation a month ago, Laurie Slagle said that many people expressed sur prise to her that she would have to suffer since she tried to be a good Christian. But she laughed and said frankly that being a good Christian meant suffering. Devoted to Mary and the rosary, she died on a first Saturday. A Scriptural rosary was said at the Westwood Funeral Home in Griffin on Feb. 8, led by Father John Barry, C.Ss.R., the new pastor of Sacred Heart Parish. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the church Feb. 9. Father Bob Poandl, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi parish in Blairsville, was principal celebrant and Father Bar ry was homilist, with other priests from the parish and archdiocese concelebrat- ing, assisted by several deacons. In addition to her hus band, Tom, Mrs. Slagle is survived by her children, Janet, Thomas, Aaron, Damon, Noah, Joshua, Zachary, Sarah-Marie, Rebecca-Anne, Rachel Frances and Jonathan Gerard.
