TEENS PARTICIPATE — Volunteers rest between activities in a charity triathalon to raise money to benefit Natalie Meadows shown here with her mother on the right. "Project Natalie" Triathalon Raises $2,800 To Help Nine-Year-Old Eighty-five volunteers rocked, volleyed and drib bled through the night to raise nearly $3,000 to help cover food and medical costs for a nine-year-old girl with a degenerative brain disease. Holy Family Church, Marietta, spearheaded “Project Natalie,” a 10-hour fundraiser, held March 27 at Marietta’s Walton High School to benefit Natalie Meadows, whose metachromatic leuko-dystrophy has left her requiring 24-hour care. Other participants in the interdenominational and interclub event were East Side Baptist ; Wheeler High School; Walton and Mariet ta High Schools’ Fellow ship of Christian Athletes; Young Life, Sprayberry High School; school Key Clubs; bands from Wheel er, Walton, Lassiter, and Sprayberry High School, as well as members from lo cal Methodist, Presbyter ian and Episcopalian con gregations. Volunteers paid $10 each to rock in rocking chairs, play basketball and volleyball from 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The triathalon was divided into one-hour intervals with 45 minutes of each hour spent on one of the three activities and 15 minute resting. More than 30 participants completed the course. In addition to the $10 en try fee, triathletes went door-to-door to solicit spon sors and donations. The largest group donation came from the Holy Fami ly Cheers Group. The largest individual donation came from Holy Family’s Steve Graessle who brought in $620. Second prize went to John McClendon of Lassiter High and third prize to Ka thy McLoud of Mt. Paran High, who brought in more than $100 each. Plaques and trophies for the winners were provided by Creative Engraving LTD., Roswell. Donations of food and drink for the volunteers were provided by Hardees’, McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme. The $2,800 raised by “Project Natalie” will help cover some of Natalie’s food and medical costs. A normal child until three years ago, she is now unable to speak and is fed through a naso-gastric tube. To Qualified Homeowners PAGE 3 — The Georgia Bulletin, April 23, 1987 AROUND THE ARCHDIOCESE St. Catherine Of Siena Parish Road Race To Cap Off Festival St. Catherine of Siena in Kennesaw is sponsoring a road race on Sat., May 2. Called the “Sienasaw Road Race,” it will be the finale of a week-long parish festival centered around the parish feast day, April 29. The race will consist of a one mile fun run and a four miler for serious runners. It is open to any interested persons. Cost for the race is $7. Each runner will receive a T shirt. Trophies and plaques will be presented for age groups. For further in formation about the race call A1 Ceccarelli at 428-2814. On Monday, April 27, beginning at 11:30 a.m., the first Sienasaw Men’s Golf Tour nament will be held at Pinetree Country Club. The Ladies Guild is sponsoring an essay contest for young writers on what St. Catherine’s parish means to them, as part of the week-long activities. A family sup per will be held at the parish hall on Tues day at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, a Mass will be celebrated for parish benefactors with an ice cream social afterwards, sponsored by the teens of the parish. A choral group will entertain at 7 p.m. on Thursday and a dinner-dance is scheduled for Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. Persons interested in participating in any of these events may call 428-7139 for in formation. The festival's purpose is to bolster parish participation and to raise money for the new church. The parish plans to make the festival an annual affair. Its name, Sienasaw, is derived from Siena and Kennesaw.
