Homilist Monsignor John McDonough PAGE 6 - The Georgia Bulletin, October 8,1987 Focus Of The Day Was The Rosary THE ROSARY was led by Immaculate Heart of Mary pastor, Father Terence Kane, above; the prayer for vocations by Father Peter Rau from St. Thomas Aquinas, Alpharetta, left. Several hundred people gathered at Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Atlanta Sunday for the public recitation of the rosary and a Mass marking the 16th an nual archdiocesan Rosary Rally. Under deep blue skies, those assembled recited the rosary on the lawn and parking area at the Church, led by pastor, Father Terry Kane, and then processed in double line into the Church, followed by the Knights of Columbus honor guard; men bearing a statue of Mary modeled upon her image in the apparitions at Fatima; and priests who concelebrated Mass with Monsignor John F. McDonough, diocesan administrator. In his homily, Monsignor McDonough reflected upon the words of Mary’s Magnificat, which revealed, he said, the “revolution” that would take place with the coming of Christ, Mary’s Son. “ He has confused the proud in their inmost thoughts; He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly; the hungry He has given every good thing, the rich sent empty away.” These words of Mary in St. Luke’s Gospel contain “a loveliness” and also “dynamite,” he said, a moral, social and economic revolution. “This is what Chris tianity means,” Monsignor McDonough said. “This revolution has come to us through a simple Jewish mother.” Mary points us to Jesus, he said. “It is not enough for us to know about Christ. What is important is that we know Him, that I know Him, that you know Him.” Master of ceremonies for the Rosary Rally was William Weller and the event was coordinated by Pat At- tridge of Corpus Christi parish, Stone Mountain. The Im maculate Heart of Mary choir provided music.
