Among other board members are Rabbi Sue Ann Wasserman of The «, Temple and Henry Wohlgemuth of Lutheran Ministries of Georgia. “We wanted it to be an in- terfaith effort to help homeless people with AIDS,” Evelyn Ullman ex plained. The name itself, * Jerusalem House, was chosen to reflect that Jerusalem is considered a sacred city by three of the * world's major religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. ^ An estimated five to seven percent of AIDS pa tients in Atlanta are homeless or become homeless after the disease is diagnosed, according to Dr. Joseph Wilber, medical director of the AIDS pro jects for the state’s public health division. They lose employment and deplete savings as a result of their illness. This loss of income contributes to their inabili ty to afford adequate hous ing. Wilber estimates 300 Atlantans will need a resi dence such as Jerusalem House by 1991. Jerusalem House will not be a shelter but a home. Sister Valentina emphasiz ed. “People will be expected to live in a home-like situa tion with other persons. They must be willing and able to live cooperatively in a group-living situation. They will be screened. Father Bayer was asked to bring the text to the Gwinnett County commissioners prior to their Aug. 22 meeting.
