Some years later, he radically changed his posi tion on abortion. “I once thought I was helping women by giving them a choice," he explain ed. "I came to realize I was not serving women; I was killing children." The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta recently released the latest sta tistics on abortions per formed in the United States: 1,328.112 in 1986, and 1,353,671 in 1987. Lourdes Homecoming Planned For Oct. 8 Our Lady of Lourdes parish will hold its ninth annual Homecoming, Sunday, Oct. 8, beginning with a celebration of Mass at 3 p.m. The annual event welcomes returning parishioners and former students of the school as well as Religious and priests who have served in the parish. This year’s Homecoming theme is "Our Lady of Lourdes; A Tradition of Loving, Caring and Sharing." The parishioners will honor Father Joseph Cavallo, their last pastor, at a reception following the Mass. The guest speaker will be attorney and former parishioner Victor McLemore. Father Cavallo was pastor from February, 1986 to September, 1989. The new pastor is Father Henry Gracz. “It’s hard for me to praise them enough,” Father Cavallo said of the Lourdes parishioners. "They’re a small com munity. but they’re a real community. The Homecoming theme is very fitting. They’re very active and have always reached out to others. They do a lot.’’ The parishioners who make up the over 200 households in the parish come from all over Atlanta, according to Father Cavallo. Our Lady of Lourdes celebrated its 75th anniver sary in 1987. All former members of the parish and school alumni are invited to return for this time of renewing relationships.
