f PAGE 3 — The Georgia Bulletin, December 14, 1989 Pastor-Author Speaks On RCIA Father Raymond Kemp of St. Cyprian and Holy Comforter Church in Washington, D.C., is com ing to Atlanta Jan. 16 to conduct a seminar called “A Pastor’s Experience of the RCIA.” Father Kemp serves as secretary for parish life and worship for the arch diocese of Washington, a post which encompasses the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) as well as the RENEW pro gram. He is the author of Fr. Kemp “Journey of Faith: Our Experience of the) Catechumenate,” and is known nationally as a spokesper son on the RCIA. The seminar is sponsored by Continuing Education for Clergy, Atlanta Forum on the Catechumenate and the Department of Education and is intended for all pastors, parochial vicars, deacons, lay pastoral associates and RCIA teams. St. Nicholas Visits Corpus Christi St. Nicholas made his annual appearance at Corpus Christi in Stone Mountain, but this year the setting was different. Instead of making visits to the children in their classrooms, he was visible to all parishioners who accepted the invitation to join him at a St. Nicolas Brunch in the gym on Dec. 3. Father Willie Hickey, using his chef expertise, trained a kitchen crew. Results were delicious. Buffet offerings includ ed French toast, bacon and sausage, fruit crepes, hashbrowns, quiche, omelettes, muf fins, and fresh fruit compote. An area was set aside for the children to leave their shoes while they ate. They found them later stuffed with special treats. The joyful at mosphere was enhanced by song, strolling magicians, and balloons for all. There was a steady stream of more than 1,200 parishioners of all ages from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. enjoying the food and a delightful ex perience of community. It was truly a family affair—parish family at its best. Suit# 202 The day provides time for participants to raise questions and concerns about the RCIA with Father Kemp and to gain insight into how to implement the Rite in the various parish settings of this diocese. Father Kemp wiil demonstrate how one parish met the challenges of the RCIA, touching upon the content, the role of the pastor, dismissal and other points. The seminar will clarify for many the distinct and com plementary roles that clergy and laity play in providing the spiritual environment for inquirers, catechumens and can didates to grow in faith and commitment to Gospel values as they are reflected in Scripture, sacramental theology and church Tradition. The cost for the day is $10 for the day session (9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) which includes lunch at the site, and $4 for the evening session (7 to 9 p.m., which is a repeat of the after noon session). A 20 percent discount is offered to parish teams of three or more. All registrations must be received by Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Office of Religious Educa tion, 680 West Peachtree St., N.W., Atlanta 30308.
