PAGE 13 — The Georgia Bulletin, January 4, 1990 AIDS Education Offered To Metro Area Hispanics The Hispanic Services office of Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta reports that over 6,000 metro and north Atlanta Hispanics have received substantial AIDS education through the hospital’s 1989 AIDS Education Project. The proposal to offer Hispanics access in their own language to extensive AIDS education is funded by the state Department of Human Resources. In 1989 the AIDS Project offered over 100 formal educational presentations to ex isting community groups in churches, neighborhoods and workplaces. The presentations combine lecture, video, and question and answer sessions to reassure concerned people or undo misconceptions. The project also reached individuals and families in their own homes or in public places frequented by Hispanics. “Due to the alarming number of Hispanics affected by this disease it is ex tremely important that this education reach as many Hispanics as possible,’’ said Sister Barbara Harrington, GNSH, coordinator of Hispanic Services. In the Central African nation of Chad, older youths, like this young man, serve as catechists, telling others the "good news" of the Gospel. Daily many like him throughout the Missions share their own faith and nourish the faith of others. A gift of $15, offered through the Propagation of the Faith, allows a catechist to carry on such work for one month.
