Father Edward Everitt, OP, pastor, said the priests had just finished cleaning up after the Christmas open house for the parish family when the smoke alarm sounded. The time was about 7 p.m. An upstairs bedroom was extensively damaged by the fire. Its cause has not yet been determined. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the rectory. Parishioners A1 and Shirley Menna offered four resident priests the use of their home since they were going out of town until after New Year’s. Then the priests plan to rent a house in the parish area. Residing at the rectory, in addition to Father Everitt, are Father Cayet Mangiaracina, OP, parochial vicar at Holy Cross; Father Brian Pierce, OP, Hispanic Apostolate; Father James Campbell, OP, Catholic Center at Emory University, and two Dominican students. Father Everitt is hopeful the rectory will be made livable in about six weeks. He said the spirits of the priests were good and the people of the parish “wonderful” with their support in the emergency, AACCW To Sponsor Day At Legislature The Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women will cosponsor "A Day at the Legislature” with the Georgia Association of Educators, Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Central Presbyterian Church, 201 Washington St., SE, across from the Capitol.
