PAGE 3 — The Georgia Bulletin, January 4, 1990 4 King Week Services Set * The 14th annual inter- Vv \Jaith service ushering in King Week '90 will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. * Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road. The community service award, a highlight of the service honoring Dr. Mar- \ s Uin Luther King, Jr. will be presented to Rev. Dr. 'McKinley Young, senior pastor of the Big Bethel AME Church, 220 Auburn Ave. Dr. Young was guest speaker at the first annual Tribute To Our Elders awards dinner held Oct. 6 by the Commission for Black Catholic Concerns of the archdiocese. Dr. Cameron Alexander, senior pastor at Antioch Baptist Church of North Atlanta, will deliver the sermon. Choirs of the Cathedral of St. Philip and Antioch Bap tist will sing. There will be a duet by members of Shirim Chorale which is af filiated with the American Jewish Committee Center. During the service Reme Rodriguez, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish, and Jose Amoros, of the Glenmary Research Center, will offer an original doxology and prayer in English and Spanish. Ms. Rodriguez said Hispanic youths will par ticipate in the youth ser vice at 2 p.m. preceding the interfaith service. Archbishop Eugene A. Marino, SSJ, will be celebrant for the seventh annual Mass honoring Dr. King at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. The liturgy is sponsored by the Commission for Black Catholic Concerns and is open to the public. The choir for the Mass will be composed of choir members from parishes around the archdiocese. A reception will follow the Mass. Theme for King Week is "Living the Dream: Let Freedom Ring! For Peace and Nonviolence." Throughout the week the King Center on Auburn Avenue will sponsor workshops, conferences, rallies and entertainment as well as the religious events. The week-long series of events will conclude Mon day, Jan. 15, the fifth na tional holiday honoring Dr. King and his 61st birthday anniversary. An ecumeni cal service will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The parade will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Line of march will go from Peachtree Street to Auburn Avenue and end at the King Center. First Saturday Devotions Thirty-three churches and chapels in the arch diocese and a Knights of Columbus council now have the Five First Satur day Devotions in honor of the Blessed Mother, under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary. Mary appeared six times between May 13 and Oct. Pius Plans King Assembly Former Mayor Andrew Young will be the featured speaker at St. Pius X High School’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. assembly on Jan. 10. Young will address the student body on the topic, “Youth in the Civil Rights Movement.” He is ex pected to review youths' past involvement in social change through non violence and to invite the young people in his au dience to get involved using nonviolent methods. Mason Harper, music director and organist of Our Lady of Lourdes parish, will lead the assembly in music from the Civil Rights movement, closing with the traditional anthem, “We Shall Over come." The assembly will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. in the John Paul II gym nasium on the school’s campus, 2674 Johnson Road in Atlanta. The public is invited. Priest's Father Dies Richard James Dora, Sr., 70, died Dec. 25 in Atlanta after a long illness. He is the father of Father Peter A. Dora, pastor of St. Joseph’s parish in Athens. Mr. Dora was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Sandy Springs. A 1941 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Dora graduated from the Nashville Law School in Nashville, Tenn. in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and in the Army Reserve following the war. retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was an official of Life and Casuality Insurance Company of Nashville. Mr. Dora and his wife, Suzanne, would have marked their 44th wedding anniversary Dec. 26. In addition to his wife and Father Dora, who is also archdiocesan director of communications, Mr. Dora is survived by another son, Richard, Jr. of Atlanta; a sister, Virginia Duesterberg of Vincennes, Ind.; and a brother, James E. Dora of Indianapolis. The funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 28 at St. Jude’s Church with Father Dora as the principal celebrant. A wake service was conducted by Father Michael Woods, pastor of St. Jude’s, at Sandy Springs Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 27. Interment was at Arlington Memorial Park at a service led by Archbishop Eugene A. Marino, SSJ. 13,1917, to three children in a field called Cova da Iria near Fatima, Portugal, north of Lisbon. She recom mended frequent recitation of the rosary; urged works of mortification for the con version of sinners; called for devotion to herself under the title of her Im maculate Heart; asked that the people of Russia be consecrated to her under this title; and requested the faithful make a Commu nion of reparation on the first Saturday of each month. The apparitions were declared worthy of belief in October, 1930, after a seven-year canoni cal investigation.
