Page 6 Clark Atlanta University Panther January 30, 1991 CAU Names Trustees By ANGELA D. GRA VELY Staff Writer Clark Atlanta University has elected three new members to its Board of Trustees. At the annual Board meeting last-month, Julius Winfield Erving 11, Leonard A. Roberts and C.E. Steel joined a body of 34 members consisting of corporate, educational, alumni, religious, faculty, student and community leaders that set policy for the Universtiy. Julius (Dr. J.) Winfield Erving 11, renowed (NBA) star and president of the Erving Group, Inc., Philadelphia, is noted nationally for his community service and volunteer work particularly with inner city youths. Erving is also well-known in the broadcast and business world. He is co-owner of WK.BW television station in Buffalo, N.Y. and co-owner of the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Leonard H. Roberts is chairman and chief executive officer of Shoney’s Inc., headquartered in Nashville. Roberts was chosen to head the restaurant chain in December 1989. Roberts was also active with a number of charities in Atlanta, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, Cyctic Fibrosis and The United Way. C.E. Steel is vice president for adminstration at Hoechst Celanese Corporation, Some rville, N.J. He is active in business, professional, and civic organizations nationally. Steel has held senior level positions at the former Celanese Corporation and several of its subsidiaries for more than 40 years. The selection process of new members is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees’ nominating committee. The committee's requirements vary according to the role and commitment to community service of the prospective members. Ann W. Kimborough, director of University Rela tions, said, “These new members serve a particular role — to enhance the board’s profile in corporate representa tion.” She also added, “They all recognize Clark Atlanta University as a good example of the university of the future.” According to Dr. Thomas W. Cole Jr., president of Clark Atlanta University, “The entire Clark Atlanta University family looks forward to the contributions these new trustees will make as they join the other di s t i nguished members of the board. Clark Atlanta is launching several new initiatives in which their expertise and guidance will be extremely helpful." Best Fundraiser On-Campus!
