About Veritas. ([Athens, Georgia]) 1970-1970 | View Entire Issue (Oct. 14, 1970)
Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1970 2 Pleased to meet you Hope you've guessed our name— But what's puzzling you Is the nature of our game . . . VERITAS means "truth" in Latin and we are going to use this as a guideline in publishing for the Athens and University communities. We say communities because there are three of them: the Black community, the white community, and the University community. Our purpose will be to report on subjects in these areas that are not reported or covered sufficiently by the local press. We hope that we will act as a bridge of communication between the communities so that people can work together for the betterment of Athens and the University. At the same time, we will report on controversial subjects in which there is an indication of neglect or irresponsibility on the part of local officials. This will only be done in the form of con structive criticism in order to improve relations in the community. We believe in working within the present system in order to improve it. We do not believe in violent revolution but realize that it is a part of some people's philosophy. We will not advocate it; we will simply report it. —the staff
