South knew that his team was in trouble and stretched all the way to 6NT. He had a moment of remorse upon seeing the dummy for he quickly realized that six diamonds would be an almost unbeatable contract while at 6NT he could only come to eleven tricks once the heart had been led. Realizing that he had to lose at least one trick South decided to duck the opening lead. He played the four from dummy and East won with the ten. bridge East realized that his partner probably had the heart King and returned the Queen of hearts to the Ace South discarding a small spade. South proceeded to take three top clubs (noting the West had only two of that suit) and then four top diamonds bring about the following position: North S-A 98 H-J D C West East S-J 104 S-Q 76 H-K H D D C C-J South S-K 5 H D-10 C-9 South now led the ten of diamonds and West, who had to keep his King of Hearts, parted with a spade. The Jack of Hearts had done its job and was thrown from the dummy. Now it was East's turn. East had to keep his Jack of Clubs so he too parted with a spade. South now led his King of Spades and then led the spade five winning with the Ace and establishing the nine of spades for Declaur's 12th trick. East and West had been the victim of a double squeeze, but poor East, he could have prevented it all by leading a small heart at trick two. by the Bulldog Butcher| ARE YOU LIVING OFF CAMPUS?
