Weight Machine
Installed in Gym
BY HOLLY ADAMS
During the past few months
Head Football Coach Bill Cloer
had a weight machine installed
in the Elbert County High Gym
nasium. The Universal Weight
Machine was bought to improve
the football program. They
needed to build up their
strength, and with this they
have been able to work more
efficiently than with only one
barbells. It has been here for
two months and has been used
everyday. In this short time
more work :has been done in
less time in a safer manner
than probably what hbs been
done in previous years altogeth
er. The whole team can get a
work-out in 50 minutes or less.
This can work as many as 18
people at one time, two to a
station, while last year only six
people, could work out at a time.
The weight machine has
eight stations and in addition
to this, there is a “real runner”.
This is a machine used to build
up the legs by running. , The
two stations are the chest press
and the leg press. Next, are the
lat station, which builds up
your back, and the curl station
that builds up the front of your
arm. There is a shoulder press,
chin-up bar and hip flexer.
Last is the dip bar which builds
up muscles in the back of the
arms and shoulders. The
amount of weight a person
wants to handle is easily con
trolled by just moving a pin.
No spotter is needed because
the machine is constructed to
control the weight.
The machine cost $ 3,6O1O 1 . It
is being paid for by gate money
collected at football and basket
ball games. Also by generous
contributions from the public.
'The team, coaches and others
involved give a special thanks
tq Joe Fendley Sr. for all his
time and effort in acquiring do
nations. He collected close to
$1,000 and played a big part in
making this addition to the
weight room possible.
tag seconds of overtime in the
game between Franklin County
and Elbert County ticked away.
As everyone looked at the clock,
they could see that the unde
feated Blue Devils 1 from Elbert
County had suffered their de
feat. Usually walking off the
court with their heads high and
a victory in their hands; the
Devils walked slowly toward
the lockerroom with low hang
ing heads ate they had been
beat in overtime by a score of
61 to 55.
The Devils played very hard,
but they were not shooting as
well as they had in previous
games. This showed up in the
second half as they only hit
2 9 % of their shots from the
floor.
Anthony Gary led the Blue
Devils scoring with 15 points.
Mike Moon led second with 14
points.
The Elbert County B-team
boys won their seventh game as
they remained undefeated. The
convincing score was 89 to 47.
Raymond Fortson and Wayne
Ward led the scoring with 34
and 24 points respectively.
