Spring Drama Festival
And Talent Show Held
BY DONNA WILLIS
The Spring Drlama Festival
and Talent Show was held in
the old gym on March 20 during
fifth and sixth periods. Most
of the school attended, and re
mained seated in quiet anticit-
pation a® Richard Fortson open
ed the show. He was slick,
funny and just fine as the Masr
ter of Cemeronies.
The comedy “Red Riding
Hood” skipped into first place',
with a cast containing Susan
Goolsby, Angela Maxwell, Pam
McIntosh, Cindy Ruff, Debbie
Rowland, and Brian Veal. Don
na Eavenson narrated. Each
person gave a winning perform
ance. Susan Goolsby especial
ly glowed as a brilliantly red
Red Riding Hood. Brian Veal
was the perfect Big Bad Wolf.
Second place was awarded to
a quartet composed of Mike
Fortson, Ben Bowman, Will
Norman, and Horace Willis.
Their vocal cords produced
such smooth, soulful vibrations
that they didn’t need any back
ground music.
Jimmy Watkins gracefully
battled his way into third place
to the music of “Kung Fu
Fighter.” In hie fUrst dance,
he wore an unusual coat. In
his. second, be appeared bare
armed . and swinging sticks.
The remaining talent was al
so exceptional. It began with
Carol Booth playing the moody
Bridge Over Troubled Water on
piano. Another piano talet was
displayed by Donna Phillips, as
she played the Entertainer.
Pam Mixon accompanied her on
clarinet. Patricia Banks and
Linda Perrin each rendered on
intenlse solo. Two guitarists*,
Kent Saxon and Eddie Grimes,
played and sang three melodies
with polished skill. Two pairs
of dancers moved freely to the
ryfhm of “Party is a Groovy
Thing” — Farris and Thelma
Morrison and Richard Fortson
and Judy Tate. A sophisticated
comedy, “Congratulations, My
Dear” was enacted superbly by
Debbie Bone and Droucelle
Wittner. Another play, “The
Affair”, was a wild melodra
matic spoof of soap operas. Its
characters! were played by Deb
bie Oouch, Many Jane Shaiw,
Patricia Hall, Lucy Maxwell,
Leisa Yoder, Wanda Maxwell,
and Montery Blackwell, who
gave an especially dramatic
performance.
