Atlanta Celebrates
Gay Pride Week makes
its fourth annual ap
pearance in Atlanta June
21st thru 30th. Each cele
bration has been a grow
ing experience for the gay
community and the city as
a whole. The first Gay
Pride Week Celebration
in 1971 was met by ap
prehension from both the
gay and straight commun
ities. Over one hundred
people marched down
Atlanta’s famous Peach
tree Street to Piedmont
Park. Gay people were
pleasantly surprized by
their public reception.
Our second Gay Pride
Week was highlighted by
Mayor Sam Massell’s
announcement that the
City of Atlanta would not
discriminate against gay
people in city services.
The third annual Gay
Pride Week was a com
bined effort of theMetro-
politan. Community
Church. Atlanta Lesbian
Feminist Alliance, the
Georgia Gay Liberation
Front and the South
eastern Gay Coalition.
This year the Atlanta
Lesbian Feminist Al
liance. the Gay Infor
mation Service and the
Metropolitan Community
Church are sponsoring
the Gay Pride Week Cele
bration. Each organiza
tion. seperately and
jointly is organizing ac
tivities during the week.
Gay Pride Week 1973
to emphasize community
awareness. In the past,
many of the celebration
activities have been
aimed at making the
straight community a-
ware of gay people and
our efforts to acheive e-
quality. This year more
emphasis is being placed
on bringing gay people
together as a commun
ity.
The sponsors will hold
a press conference on
June 21st for the straight
media and activities will
begin with the ALFA
Omega's Gay Nineties
Carnival. Bringing back
the backyard and neigh
borhood feeling of
America at the turn of
the century, the ALFA
people will bring you an
afternoon of happenings
and good times. ALFA
and GIS will hold open
houses on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings re
spectively. Each or
ganization will help you
to understand what they
are doing and exchange
ideas on what can be done
to forward the work of
both organizations. On
Wednesday evening the
MCC will host a discus
sion lecture on Homosex
uality and the law.
Friday and Saturday
will be party days with
a Planner’s Party on Fri
day and a picnic in the
park on Saturday. MCC
will host the closing act
ivities of Gay Pride Week
Celebration '74. Sunday
with their regular 2:00
P.M. worship service, a
special memorial service
for the New Orlean’s fire
victims on the first an
niversary of that tragic
fire, and a very special
movie to send us off into
the year.
Join with your friends
during the last week of
June to explore the gay
community as it grows
and expands.

if Late News Bulletin if
Atlanta, Ga. - Thursday
evening June 6,1974 one of
our reporters spoke to
an ex-waitress at Denny’s
Restaurant, located on
Monroe Drive in Atlanta
He was told that the
waitress and other em
ployees were allegedly
fired for encouraging
homosexuals to patronize
this particular restaurant.
This particular restau
rant has long been known
as a “meeting and eating”
place for members of the
gay community, who are
outraged and shocked at
the management’s at
titude toward gay people.
It seems they don’t mind
taking our money - but af
ter that still consider us
to be second class citi
zens.
We understand that the
leaders in the gay com
munity are taking a
course of action against
this discriminatory at
titude of management.
The prejudices we en
dured in the past are no
longer the fervor of the
future.
