JUNIOR HADASSAH HAS
MONTHLY MEETING
Junior Hadassah of Atlanta held its
regular monthly meeting at the At
lanta Biltmore Hotel, Sunday, Febru
ary 24th at 3 P. M. with a large and
interested attendance. Six new mem
bers were brought in, evidencing the
growth and popularity of the local
Chapter and the Cause.
During the business meeting, it was
decided that the local Chapter would
send a Quilt to Palestine, with each
square of the blue containing in the
center an outline of the Shield of Da
vid, these points to be embroidered
with names of Atlanta children, and
when completed, is to be sent as a
gift from the children of Atlanta to
the children of Meiere Shfeyah, the
children’s village in Palestine, which
OR V’SHALOM CONGREGATION
HAS ELECTION OF OFFICERS
At a recent meeting of the Or V-’
Shalom congregation, 340 Central
Avenue, the following officers were
elected for the coming year: President,
Solomon Piha; Vice-President, • Sam
Franco; Treasurer, Rabeno Galanti;
Secretary, Isaac Benveniste. Board
of directors: Victor Franco, Simon
Franco, Victor Benatar, Jack Galanta,
Isaac Alhadeff, B. Rousso, Eli Piha,
David Ajouelo; honorary members:
Jacob Hanan and Abraham Caval-
liero.
The congregation has been main
taining a Talmud Torah in charge of
Rev. Menaham Sarfati. About sixty
children attend Sunday School regu
larly, and great progress is being
made with educational work.
TEMPLE SISTERHOOD
A luncheon was given by the Tem
ple Sisterhood at the Standard Club,
March 4, in honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Wise, of Chattanooga. After
the luncheon, Mr. Wise spoke at the
regular monthly meeting of the Sis
terhood to which the members of the
Council of Jewish Women were in
vited. Mr. Wise, son of the distin
guished Dr. Isaac M. Wise, gave an
extremely interesting discussion of
“The Modern Judaism of Dr. Isaac M.
Wise.” Following the meeting, coffee
and cakes were enjoyed by the mem
bers and their guests during the social
hour.
WOMAN’S CLUB
Rehearsals have begun for “The
Follies,” a musical show, to be given
by the Junior Division of the Jewish
Woman’s Club, sometime in April, at
the Club house, Washington and Clark
streets. The exact date of “The Fol
lies” will be announced later.
The officers of the Junior Division
of the Jewish Woman’s Club are: Miss
Betty Lipman, President; Miss Dora
Klotz, 1st Vice-President; Miss Elsie
Lichenstein, 2nd Vice-President; Mi
Helen Balser, Recording Secretary-
Miss Stella Spielberger, Correspond
ing Secretary, and Miss Freeda Freed
man, Treasurer. Miss Polly Gershon
and Miss Bessie Nissenbaum are spon
sors for the Junior Division.
“The Follies” is being directed by
Mr. Earl Blackwell, who directed the
recent highly successful Oglethorpe
University Petrel Follies held at the
Forsyth Theater. Miss Elsie Rudder-
man, popular pianist, who recently
broadcast over WSB, is assisting with
the music for “The Follies.” It i s go
ing to be a very snappy and entertain
ing musical show, introducing many-
new song and dance hits.
Some of the actors for “The Follies”
include: Misses Ada Galanter, Sylvia
Kahanow, Stella Spielberger, Agnes
Nissenbaum, Elsie Lichenstein, Free
da Freedman, Helen Balser, Betty
Lipman, Beatrice Eplan, Katie Fine-
roff, Jennie Schaffer, Katie Israel, An
nie Cohen, Bessie Lee Rose, Blume
Blass, Annette Pamarence; Messrs.
Hyman King, Joe A1 Brown, Morris
Shulmister, Harry Mislow, Meyer B.
Morris, and others.

At the conclusion of the business,
Miss Perle Bokritsky made a beauti
ful talk on the Nurses Training School
in Jerusalem, another of Junior Ha-
dassah’s projects, and pointed out the
duty and the beauty of the undertak
ing. Mr. Alvin Nissenbaum played
two violin numbers, in his usual beau
tiful manner of interpretation, and
Miss Lee Rittenbaum gave an inter
esting article on Jews Who Helped in
the American Revolution.
MISS SUZANNE KEENER CAN
CELS ENGAGEMENT HERE
Atlanta Chapter Junior Hadassah
wishes to announce that Miss Suzanne
Keener, scheduled to appear under
their sponsorship March 7th, has can
celled her engagement and tickets are
being recalled. In order to raise its
quota, an emergency board meeting
was called and plans were made for a
Mammoth Bridge to be given at the
Ansley Roof, March 19th, at 8:30 P.
M. Friends of Junior Hadassah are
earnestly urged to participate in this
occasion which promises to be one of
the social events of the winter, and
at the same time assist the girls in
this work. Misses Polly Gershon and
Sara Shuman are Chairmen of the af
fair, assisted by a corps of able
workers.
The regular monthly meeting of the
Atlanta Chapter Junior Hadassah was
held at the Biltmore Hotel, Sunday,
February 24th at 3 o’clock. Miss
Helen Seff, the president presided. The
reports of her various committee
chairmen were indeed gratifying and
showed that much progress was be
ing made. An interesting program
had been arranged through the ef
forts of Miss Sara Gershon and Miss
Lottie Geffen. Miss Perle Bokritzky
spoke on “The Nurse’s Training
School”; Miss Lee Rittenbaum gave a
talk on “The Jews of the Revolution
ary Period.” Both of these talks were
both interesting and instructive. Mr.
Alvin Nissenbaum, Atlanta’s youth
ful prodigy closed the program with
two beautiful violin selections.
ANNUAL BENEFIT PURIM BALL
TO BE GIVEN MARCH 26TH
The annual Purim ball for the bene
fit of the United Hebrew School will
be given on March 26th at the Audi
torium Armory at 8:30 o’clock, ac
cording to announcement made by
Louie Rittenbaum, chairman of the
publicity committee. There will be a
midnight frolic with professional en
tertainment. Admission will be fifty
cents per person. The affair is being
arranged under the general director
ship of Mr. Jake Jacobs, 104 Pryor
Street.
JEWISH COUNCIL HEARS
MRS. LEROY MICHAEL
The Atlanta section of the National
Council of Jewish Women met last
Monday in the vestry rooms of the
Temple, Mrs. Frank Neely opening the
meeting with a prayer. Following the
election of delegates to the convention
in Chattanooga, Mrs. Neely intro
duced the speaker, Mrs. Leroy Mi
chael, who gave an account of the
founding and subsequent career of
nursery schools.
Mrs. Michael is a member of the
faculty of the nursery school in Ath
ens which is operating under a grant
of the Rockefeller foundation. The
Athens school has 18 children enrolled
between the ages of two and five
years, who have been taught indepen
dence and self-reliance. Mrs. Mi
chael’s talk concerning this school
proved interesting to the large num
ber of Council members present at the
meeting.
COUNCIL TO HOLD SOUTHERN
INTERSTATE CONFERENCE
The Southern Interstate Conference
of the Council of Jewish women will
be held in Chattanooga on April 7th,
8th and 9th. Mrs. A. S. Kohler of
Savannah is president of the group.
The conference will discuss many
questions relating to the approaching
convention of the National Council of
Jewish Women in Los Angeles. A
large number of Atlanta women are
expected to attend the sessions.
The regular quarterly meeting of
the Hebrew Orphans’ Aid was held
March 7 at the home of Mrs. Leo
Strauss, president.
