The Southern Israelite Page 14 With Our Correspondents The regular meeting of the Daugh ter* of Abraham was held at the home of Mrs. W. Aaron* of Screven, Ga. The Jacksonville chapter of Hadas sah entertained with a benefit card party Wednesday afternoon, February 20th at the Jacksonville Jewish Cen ter. More than 25 tables were reserved for thi* occasion. The winner of high score at each table was presented an attractive gift. A cut prize was also given. Following the awarding of prizes a refreshment course was served. Mrs. S. L. Blattner, Mrs. Morris H. Witten, Mr*. Maurice Hammerman and Mr*. Fred Meyerheim were in charge of arrangements. Mr. I T. Cohen of Atlanta, and Mr. Sam Moog of Augusta, were in Val dosta recently. Mr. and Mrs. Max Gilmore of Way- cross, spent the week-end in Moultrie, as the guests of their children Mr. and Mrs. Israel Pearlman. Mr. and Mrs. I. Pearlman of Val dosta, 8 pent Sunday visiting their children, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Isaacson, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Freidlander, and Mr. and Mrs. Israel Pearlman, of Moultrie. Misses Libbye and Frances Mazo, Libbye, Gilmore, Dora Warshawsky, Helen Weiser, and Messrs. Julius Gil more, Harry and Ben Bennett, of Waycross, attended the Greenberg- Garber wedding at Gainesville, Fla. At the recent meeting of the Jew Bu Lee Club, of Thomasville, the fol lowing officers were re-elected: Mr. Harry Goldstein, President, and Mr. Herman Rosenberg, Secretary and Treasurer. Members of the Hebrew Junior Iveague entertained with a George Washington birthday dance Thursday night at the Jacksonville Jewish Temple. MACON, GA. By Ida Belle Coplan A date long to be remembered is February 25th, when the Racket Club entertained with their annual dance at the Volunteers Armory. The hall was elaborately decorated, and two or chestras, Georgians and Pilots, fur nished the music from ten until four o’clock, after which the guests ad journed to the New York Cafe for an early breakfast. About four hundred guests from all parts of Georgia and a few Eastern cities were present at the affair. For the visitors who ar rived Sunday, a “get-together” was given at the Golf Club Country home, and those remaining over until Tues day were entertained in the Oriole Dining Rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dannenberg an nounce the birth of a daughter. Mrs. Henry Hirsch of Atlanta was the recent visitor of Miss Clarice Guthman. Of much interest throughout the South is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Rosalyn Kuhr to Mr. Stanley Elkan of this city, the wedding having taken place at the home of the bride’s parents in Savan nah. Mrs. Arnold Hirsch of Birmingham is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. McMillian. Mr. and Mrs. B. Goldman have re turned from a trip to New York. The benefit bridge of the Ladies’ Auxiliary was held at the home of Mrs. Lutsky with about 25 guests present. After several rounds of bridge, refreshments were served. Miss Lesser of Boston was a recent visitor here. She is nationally known as a great Hadassah worker. A din ner was given in her honor at the Lanier Hotel. Mr. J Turner, whose condition greatly improved, has returned f rr Miami. 01TI Mrs. Cuba, Mr. and Mrs. P Gin berg, and Joe Cuba of Atlanta motor ed down recently to spend the dav with Miss Miriam Tenenbaum at W P - leyan College. Mrs. M. Lutsky is spending several days in Miami as the guest of her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Sol Lut sky. Mr. and Mrs. A. Fogel recently had as their guests their mother Mrs. S. Isenberg of Gordon, and aunt Mrs. Cohen of Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. L. Snyder have re turned from a buying trip to New York. The Junior Hadassah, which recent ly organized here, gave their first af fair in the form of a card party at the Eagel’s Club. Miss Bessie Lutsky is president of the local chapter and Mrs. S. Rubin is general advisor. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Kaplan and Pearl Kaplan have returned from a trip to Camden. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Spielberger mo tored down to spend the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Cop lan. Mr. Milford Putzel is spending sev eral days in Miami, having gone down for the Stribling-Sharkey fight. JAILED FOR REFUSING TO SHAVE BEARD, HE EMERGES WITH NEW BEARD Rabbinic Student Perists, Asks Prime Minister for Permission Warsaw (J. T. A.)—Having spent four months in military prison for refusal to obey his superior’s order to shave his beard, in accordance with army regulations, Hirsch Frenkel, Rabbinic student of Tarnopol emerged from prison today with a new beard. Frenkel faced his beard problem all over again when he rejoined his regi ment and declared with the same de termination which brought him be fore the military court which sentenc ed him to jail that he cannot, on con science, violate the Biblical injunction against shaving his beard. The sergeant ordered him to app'^ai in line cleanshaven, but the Rabbinic student addressed a new petition to the military authorities and to Prime Minister Bartel to grant him permis sion to keep his beard.
