CONGRESS CALLED FOR
JERUSALEM NEXT YEAR
Tel Aviv (J. T. A.).—A congress of
Jewish physicians throughout the
world will be held here in 1930. A de
cision to call the congress was taken
at the All-Palestine Jewish Physicians
Congress in session here.
Hygiene questions, with special ap
plications to race, will be taken up.
JEWISH ARTISTS EXHIBIT
AT ROYAL ACADEMY
London (J. T. A.)—Jewish artists
will be prominently represented at the
forthcoming annual exhibition of the
Royal Academy, it is seen from the
published list of exhibitors.
Considerable interest was evinced in
the young Jewish artist of White
chapel, Sylvain Kluska, who is seven
teen years old. Two of his paintings
have been accepted by the Royal Acad
emy for exhibition. He will be the
youngest artist exhibiting this year.
Kluska’s parents came to London
from Poland fifteen years ago. In an

boy stated that he takes an interest
in Jewish affairs. His parents, who
were poor, helped him greatly toward
his success. His first pictures were
exhibited three years ago in the White
chapel Art Gallery. Since then he
has studied art at St. Martins School.
ELMER RICE AWARDED PULIT
ZER PRIZE FOR “STREET SCENE”
New York, (J. T. A.).—Elmer L.
Rice, playwright, was awarded the
$1,000 Pulitzer Prize *for the best play
produced during the season, 1928-1929.
Mr. Rice was given the award “For
the original American play perform
ed in New York which shall best rep
resent the educational value and pow
er of the stage.”
Among other awards announced was
the $500 prize for the best editorial
written during the year. This went
to Louis Isaac Jaffe, editor of the
Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, Va.,
for his editorial entitled “An Unspeak
able Act of Savagery,” published June
22, 1928, which is typical of a series
of articles written on the lynching
