LINA BERNSTEIN, French avia-
trix, established the world’s record for
aeroplane flying in a record flight
from Istress to Cairo recently.
ABRAHAM CAHAN, editor of the
“Forward,” New York Yiddish daily
was a visitor to Jerusalem recently.
Mr. Cahan stated that he did not go
to Palestine as a newspaperman, but
in order to see the country and the
Yisub after the disaster.
LII)J ANDARGUE, Massai of
Abyssinia, who describes himself as a
direct descendant of King Solomon,
made a plea before the League of Na
tions Assembly for Christian peoples
to unite to bring peace to Palestine.
He said that Christian residents of
Palestine took sides in the Arab-Jew-
ish question, instead of acting as
peacemakers.
FRANZ MOLNAR, noted dramatist,
has declined the post of President of
the Budapest Kehillah, governing body
there. Since the death of its former
head, Aladar Kasab, numerous diffi
culties have been encountered in se
lecting his successor.
MRS. DUGALE, niece of Lord Bal
four, in addressing a meeting of the
Federation of Women Zionists of
Great Britain and Ireland, brought a
message from Lord Balfour saying
that the immense tragedy in Palestine
should be turned to good account,
using it for consolidating the Zionist
movement, and strengthening them in
their determination to build up the
National Home in Palestine.
LOUIS BAMBERGER, upon retir
ing as head of the Bamberger Depart
ment Store of Newark, N. J., fulfilled
a promise made a month ago when he
gave .$1,000,000 in bounties to veteran
employes. Mr. Bamberger said that it
was the greatest pleasure of his life
to make such an offering, especially
since the recipients themselves had
made L. Bamberger and Company a
success.
DR. SOLOMON ALKALAY, one of
the leading gynecologists of Europe,
died recently in Belgrade, Jugoslavia.
As an army physician during the
World War he rendered distinguished
service. He was president of the Jugo
slavian section of the Sephardic World
Organization, president of the Bel
grade Lodge of the Independent Order
B’nai B'rith, and an active Zionist
worker.
LADY GOLLANCZ, mother of sui
cide-victim, Leonard Gollancz, died af
ter receiving a stroke when she learn
ed of her son’s untimely death. Her
husband, Sir Herman Gollancz, is se
riously ill in a London hospital.
DR. TIBOR LOEW, prominent
member of the Executive Committee
of the Budapest Kehillah, was ap
pointed president of the Budapest
Supreme Court. Dr. Loew is a descend
ant of the Maharal, Rabbi of Prague,
crenter of the “Golem,” according to
legend.
OSCAR SLATER, who was released
recently after eighteen years impris
onment on a murder charge, is being
sued in London by Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle to recover 250 pounds. Conan
Doyle guaranteed 1,000 pounds to de
fray the expneses of Slater’s trial,
0,000 of which was received by Sla
ter, who now refuses to pay the bal
ance due Doyle.
