PARAMOUNT ‘‘The Mighty,” a powerful all- talking melodrama, starring George Bancroft, will be shown in Atlanta at the Paramount Theatre during the week of November 25. In support of this famous star are Esther Ralston, last seen and heard to advantage in “The Wheel of Life,” and Warner Oland who was recently starred in “The Mysterious Dr. Ku Manchu.” In this latest Paramount production, a stirring story of a notorious gun man’s regenerations is unfolded with telling effect. Seldom has a more fas cinating plot made its way to the audible screen. The action is fast, re plete with many exciting sequences that build up to a suspense-filling cli max. And best of all, the picture is always convincing and believable, in many respects the best George Ban croft vehicle seen and heard to date. The performance of Bancroft in the role of the swaggering gunman who forsakes his criminal life through the influence of a woman who loves and has faith in him is of high order. As a matter of fact, those who have seen the picture are convinced that in “The Mighty” he gives the best per formance of his career. RIALTO The Rialto offers this week Carol Lombard and Robert Armstrong, both of whom will be remembered for their excellent work in “Big News,” in “The Racketeer,” a distinctly different un derworld drama, outstanding in story plot and characterizations. “The Racketeer” tells a gripping story of the bigness of a man who dominated his own clan and a woman who was willing to throw aside con ventions of high society for love. Strong with human appeal and force this all music, sound and dialogue opus offers the blonde beauty, Carol Lombard, in an ideally suitable role, as that of the popular society girl whose courageous heart rules. Never has this star appeared more beautiful and of fered a more finished piece of acting. While Robert Armstrong, as the sym pathetic friend and lover, contributes a fine performance. Others in the all star cast include John Loder, pretty Jeanette Loff, Hed- da Hopper and Roland Drew, each a recognized actor. Action of “The Racketeer” takes place in the upper circles of wealth and fashion in New York. SIMMS SUNDAY MID-NIGHT METROPOLITAN “Footlights and Fools” a musical revue of the new type, replete with tuneful melodies, hosts of beautiful dancers, and enhanced by natural col or which gives it the finishing touch of greatness, will be the attraction at The Metropolitan Theatre the week of November 18th. Not only is “Footlights and Fools” noted for its songs, color and beauty, but also because of the cast, which embraces Colleen Moore, Raymond Hackett, star with Ruth Chatterton in “Madame X” and with Norma Shearer in “The Trial of Mary Dugan,” Fred eric March latest acquisition of the talking screen, from the ranks of the famous stage stars.
