H’nai B’rith made an investi- which revealed that in the of former patients to whom particular delinquency attached, wa> considerable confusion, having been unable to differ entiate between the paid department and the free clinics. In order to cor rect the evil, the B’nai B’rith placed a social worker at the Sanitarium and every prospective Jewish patient was investigated, and financial position as certained, and upon report of the B’nai B’rith worker, the final terms were established. So effective was the B’nai B’rith worker as intermediary between the Mayo Brothers and the afflicted ones that the B’nai B’rith have been given a suite of offices without rent by the Mayo Brothers and the facilities of the hospital have all been closely co-operative with this intelligent effort. The adverse and severely criticized ruling has been rescinded and a dis position to co-operate manifested on *the part of the entire personnel of the Rochester Sanitarium which is most highly commendable. In addi tion, it is the function of the B’nai B’rith worker to visit with regularity all of the unfortunate ones of our people who are total strangers in a strange environment, heretofore lack ing the effective expression of friend ship and good cheer so highly essen tial to the mental attitude of the in valid, many of them incapacitated for periods of several months, for until the admission of the B’nai B’rith worker, they received no visits of any kind from members of the faith. Highest approbation has been given to the B’nai B’rith upon this splendid piece of work, and in addition, the earnest commendation of the B’nai B’rith organization for the construc tive character of this effort has been frequently expressed by the officials of the Mayo Brothers Sanitarium. L oat Nathan Snellenberg, the I p',' * Snellenberg business “Udelphia died recently. He be- from Page 12) longed to the school of creative minds jn the business world. The name Snel lenberg has become known throughout the country, like Macy and May and Bloomingdale and Kaufmann and other department stores that go back to the early days. It seems that the day of individual department store development has passed and what’s going on now is merely the taking over of large stores by holding com panies, or the merger of one store with another. I wonder if this isn’t going to bring about the end of the creative mind in the world of big re tail business? There are any number of men who can run a machine but they don’t know how to build one. John Wanamaker, A. T. Stewart, Marshall Field, Adam Gimbel and others of similar type were builders. You could put these men anywhere and they w’ould be able to build up a business. Nathan Snellenberg w’as a pioneer who knew how to blaze a trail and surmount obstacles that would daunt men of less strength and re sources. In his passing the city of Philadelphia has lost one of its most valuable sons. SAM E. LEVY, Pres. ABE GOLDSTEIN, V.-Pres. PRIOR TIRE CO., Inc.
