WILL DURANT TO ATLANTA Junior Hadassah, as well as serving Palestine in caring for their orphans, is serving Atlanta by bringing such a well-known figure in the literary world as I)r. Will Durant. Dr. Durant, first became prominent for his work when teaching at Columbia Univer sity. His “Story of Philosophy,” and “Mansions of Philosophy" have gained world fame. These young Jewish women of At lanta are to be congratulated in spon soring this lecture, from a civic, lit erary and intellectual standpoint. They will no doubt receive the co-op eration from all the Jewish and non- Jewish organizations, and from those interested in the work of Dr. Durant. Dr. Durant’s lecture will be given at the Atlanta Theatre and will be introduced by Col. Paxon, who is one of the outstanding literary figures in Atlanta. Tickets are now on sale at Rich’s Book Shoppe, Davison’s and members of the organization. Reservations are already being made and we urge those who desire reserved seats to make reservations i m m e< i ia t el y. Jews Acquitted of Murder Charges Jerusalem (J. T. A.)—Three Jews from Mekor Hayim who had been charged with murder were released yesterday by the examining judge. Another Jew was acquitted of a mur der charge by the Court. All of these eases are said to have arisen from libels by the Arabs. » Organiznl ion u :: ;; ::K" ~ sj " Activities COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN HON. SLATON SPEAKS ON PEACE AT STANDARD CLUB The Hon. John M. Slaton spoke re cently on “Peace” at the joint meet ing of the Temple Sisterhood and the Council of Jewish W omen. Rabbi Da vid Marx delivered the invocation after which Mr. Solon Drukenmiller sang “The Star Spangled Banner,” followed by two other beautiful vocal numbers. Mr. Slaton briefly discussed the practical as well as theoretical aspect of avoiding war. stressing the abso lute necessity for abolition of war and encouragement of friendship among nations. He emphasized that first we must have the ideal of peace and then convert our ideal into actu ality. Mr. Slaton cited a number of disputes settled amiably within re cent years to illustrate his optimism as to the practicability of peace, and explained through the words of poets and prophets the high essentials and ideal of peace which is surely attain able. JUNIOR HADASSAH The Atlanta Chapter of Junior Hadassah entertained the prospective members with a manless cabaret Wednesday, November 20, at the Jew ish Educational Alliance. This affair is given annually to interest new mem bers in the beautiful work done by Hadassah in maintaining a children’s village and a nurses’ training school in Palestine. The program included the following entertainers: Miss Elsie Rudderman, Miss Katherine Boswell, and Miss Freda Swerdlin. singing several popu lar melodies, and Miss Beulah Levin, who rendered a piano solo. The music was very ably rendered by the melody masters. The prizes were won by Miss Rose Schreiber and Miss Gussie Hor- witz. The success of the cabaret was largely due to Miss Polly Gershon and Miss Lee Rittennum. co-chairman of the membership committee; Miss Lee Shuman, chairman of the program committee, and Miss Mary Hirseh, chairman of the refreshment commit tee, as well as the whole-hearted co operation of every member of the va rious committees. The regular monthly meeting of .Junior Hadassah was held Sunday, November 2-1, at d o’clock at the Hen ry Grady Hotel. Almost every member was present at this meeting, interest ing and entertaining. Junior Hadassah has been very for tunate in bringing to Atlanta Dr. Will Durant, who will lecture on “Out- Changing Morals,” at the Atlanta Theater, Thursday, December 12. Dr. Durant was formerly with the depart ment of philosophy, Columbia Uni versity. His works, "The Story of Philosophy," “Transition,” and "The Mansions of Philosophy.” are the most widely read books today.
