ZABAN PARK POOL OPENING DELAYED
Due to rainy weather and the need for minor repairs to the Zaban
Park pool the opening of the pool is being delayed. We are hopeful
that the pool will be open on Sunday, June 5. To verify thf
opening date and the schedule calls may be received at the Centei
on Friday, June 3rd — Please call TR. 5-7881 for further Infor
mation.
Sunday, June 12, 1966 is the
annual open house at Camp
Barney Medintz. Parents, family
and friends of campers are urged
to visit the site and meet the
staff. This day will be especially
enhanced by the dedication of our
new chapel. Mr. Erwin Zaban has
given the chapel in honor of his
wife, Doris, on the occasion of
their 25th wedding anniversary.
Transportation: Parking facilities
at camp are limited. We strongly
urge visitors to use the air-con-
ditioned buses which will depart
from the AJCC at 10:30 a.m.,
Special Activity
Going On In Pool
Starting June 6th through June
17 there will be a special pro
gram going on in the pool This
program is only for the young
ster going to Nursery School
camp and those youngster par
ticipating in the afternoon Cen
ter Swim Program.
The program is being called:
‘ Pre Schoolers- Learn to Swim."
During these two weeks, we
hope the youngster will become
orientated to the Center and
swimming pool, get to know the
Aquatic Director and to over
come some of their fears of the
water before going to camp.
The program will be held Mon,
Thurs for two weeks from 1:30-
3:00 p. m. Sorry members there
will be NO FAMILY SWIM dur
ing this time.
POOL GOES ON
SUMMER SCHEDULE
As of June 5th the swimming
pool will be going on the sum
mer schedule. The pool WILL
NOT be open in the mornings for
family swims and during the
week the pool will be closing at
9 p. m. rather than 10 p. m. Sun
days the pool will close at 4:30
p m. Hope you will have a
pleasant safe summer.
10:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. and leave
Camp Barney Medintz at 3:30
p.m.
The roundtrip fare will be
$2.50 per person. Reservations
can be made by calling the
AJCC no later than Wed. June
8, 1966.—TR. 5-7881.
Program—The total camp staff
will be available to conduct tours
of the camp grounds and to an
swer questions regarding facili
ties and program. The camp will
provide soft drinks and families
are urged to bring picnic lunchs
which they may eat in the Camp
dining hall. Casual attire.

Last chance to register for
summer swim classes. Classes
will be starting the week of June
19 and will terminate on August
12. There are still a few vacan
cies in the following classes:
Advanced Beginners — Wed.

Intermediates - Tues. 3:30-4:15

Springboard Diving — Thurs

The Centers indoor swimming
pool will bo going on the Sum
mer schedule starting June 5. The
schedule will he as follows:
Sundays — pool closes at 4:30
p. m.
Monday-Thurs pool will close
at 9 p. m. rather than 10 p. m.
There will be NO morning
family swims — morning family
swims will resume next fall.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR
YOUNG HIGH
SCHOOL GIRLS
Girls who have completed at
least 9th grade may apply for
positions as volunteer aides in
the preschool dept, summer pro
gram. The volunteer aide pro
gram is designed to give selected
young people a supervised ex
perience which should prove
helpful in career planning, per
sonal development and service to
their community.
Working under supervision and
with preschool age children the
aide develops self responsibility,
maturity and learns the basics
of camp counselling.
Applications and further in
formation may be obtained by
speaking with Mrs. Sacks the
Center’s preschool dept, director.
Men’s Softball League
An exciting 6 team softball
league is now in progress every
Sunday at the AJCC. Action be
gins at 8:45 a.m. with 4 of the
teams playing double headers.
On Thursday evenings at 8:30
p.m., the action resumes in the
form of 2 single 9 inning games.
The League is divided into 2
halves with the winners of the
first half meeting the winners of
the second half.
Teams and their captains are:

Tennis I^essons Offered
Tennis instruction will be of
fered to the teenage set begin
ning the week of June 13. This is
an 8 week course starting with
the basic fundamentals and
working up to court play.
All participants must furnish
their own ball, racket and have
regulation tennis shoes.
Ages 11-13 will meet Monday
and Wed. from 2-4. Ages 14 and
up will meet Tues. and Thurs.
from 2-4. Participants must have
Center insurance.
Fee—$5. for 8 lessons. Center
insurance—$2.
GROUP TO MEET
JUNE 16TH
A meeting of the Group, open
to members only, will be held at
the AJCC on June 16th at 8:00.
The main purpose of the meeting
will be the election of officers.
The business meeting will be fol
lowed by refreshments and danc
ing. This affair, and all those to
come, will be open to Group
members only. . .

LITTLE LEAGUE
Two leagues were formed to
kick off the 1966 Little League
season. The National League con
sists of boys 10-13 years of age
and the American league consists
of 8 and 9 year olds.
Games are played every even
ing beginning at 6:45 p.m. with
each league alternating nights.
The 4 team National Leagues
are: Cards, Giants, Braves,
Pirates.
The 3 team American League
are Indians, Yankees, Orioles.
Any boy still interested may
join by registering at the AJCC.
Fee is $5. plus $2. insurance. For

City-Wide Jewish Youth
Council Formed
Youth representatives of eight
youth serving organizations
which conduct active programs
within the Atlanta Jewish Com
munity met on Sunday, May 22nd
and unanimously endorsed the
formation of a community-wide
Jewish Youth Council. Partici
pating in this significant meet
ing were the following:

In discussing the possible
functions of the Jewish Youth
Council, mention was made of
the following projects:
1. Maintenance of a calendar
clearance for all youth groups.
2. The provision of a youth
group which could relate appro
priately to youth in the general
community.
3. Conducting of a periodic
Jewish Youth conferences on
matters of specific concern to
young people.
4. Conducting of the Junior
Division of the Jewish Welfare
Fund.
5. Youth participation in com
munity wide events such as—
Jewish Music Festivals
Jewish Book Month
Commemoration of the anni
versary of the Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising.
Celebration of the anniversary
of the establishment of the Jew
ish State of Israel.
Occasional Inter-Group Social
Activities.
Actual projects will not be ap
proved until the newly formed
Youth Council convenes in the
fall
Leslie Silver was elected as
temporary chairman of the Youth
Council.
ADULT TENNIS LESSONS
Beginning June 6 at 10 a.m.
tennis lessons will be offered to
adult members of the AJCC.
The first of these 6 one hour les
sons, will begin in the gym and
as we progress move outdoors
to the , courts. Instructor, Harold
Post. Fee $3 for 6 lessons—
Maximum 6—so register now.
