Senior Friendship
News

Senior Friendship Club has al
ways been proud of a little hur
ricane worker in its midst, Alma
Mardenfeld, our financial secre
tary, but when her name-sake
hit the Sunshine City from out
of the Caribbean it shook most
of the club’s membership, not
from physical injuries, but for a
lot of them, damage about their
property. It was a blessing that
Hurricane Alma veered a bit when
it hit the West Coast of Florida,
for it saved homeowners a great
deal of money in repairs.
Harry Kaplow reported dam
age to his roof and the uprooting
of trees on his property. Nathan
and Nancy Rubin also reported
several of their large trees and
bushes uprooted but no serious
damage to their home. Jessie and
Julius Schwartz, with waterfront
property, 'left their home the
night of the hurricane’s Visit and
moved jnto St. Petersburg with
the Loewensteins, as did Henri-
ette Tirk, who also faced danger
from high tides in the Gulf of
Mexico. Members of SF Club
checked with other members
living on the beaches and made
room for them in their homes
for the danger period. Nancy and
Nathan Rubin were housed in the
home of David and Edna Fisher.
Kasper and Caroline Loewen-
stein, celebrating their 10th an
niversary, were having a very
informal supper with Julius and
Jessie Schwartz when all of a
sudden a bombshell let go as
Dave and Edna Fisher, Ned and
Henriette Tirk, Harry and Ruth
Rose, Toba Rothman, Nancy and
Nathan Rubin decided to join
the celebration. It was a real get-
together and a very, very enter
taining evening for all the
“gang.”
In another celebration, held on
June 11 in the Gold Room of the
Driftwood Restaurant, the women
folk of SF Club assembled, not
knowing what was what, but the
mystery soon cleared itself and
they found themselves celebrat-
