A rugged man boldly
shaped from steel reinforcing
rods kneels in the center of the
Arts Festival in Atlanta’s
Piedmont Park.
A carefree carousel with
prancing iron horses spins
around at the touch of young
hands.
Both the young and not so
young visitor to the arts festi

Jerold Frankel a young At

artist mother, he built benches

cast in concrete for bases. The
pulpit was embellished with a

“Sh'ma” and the beautiful

theater. There, after several
parts before the footlights he
turned his talents backstage to
production and lighting.
Wanting to gain more pro
ficiency in French he applied
for a junior year abroad pro
gram. He was accepted, prior
to the formal schooling in
Paris he was a participant in a
youth work program in Paris
where he worked grueling
hours for little pay. When
asked how he liked living in
Paris, Jerold replied with a
shrug “I gained perspective.”
After completing this work
program, Jerold bought a sec
ond hand motorcycle, rebuilt
it and toured the Youth
Hostels of Europe. He said that
