THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE
Let’s Laugh a Little
AJP ROSH HASHANA FEATURE
Dr. Harold Finkel had prac
ticed medicine for the past 30
years. Finally, when his son
graduated medical school and
was ready to open a practice, he
suggested his father take a nice
long vacation.
"You could use a good rest,
Pop,” the boy exclaimed.
So the father heeded the son’s
advice and took a trip to Europe
with his wife. They were gone
for almost three months. Then
finally when he returned to the
office, he found his young son
beaming from ear to ear.
“You look happy, my boy—tell
me how was everything?" the
father asked.
“Wonderful Pop—guess what—
you know Mrs. Kreinker. . .”
“Nu, so what about Mrs. Krein
ker,” the father asked.
"WELL you know how you’ve
been treating her for years for
her indigestion?”
“Nu, so what about it?”
“Well, I finally cured her last
week!” the son exclaimed proud
ly.
“Oy, vey,” the father moaned,
“Shlemozzel—Mrs. Kreinker’s in
digestion paid your way through
medical school!”

would you charge me interest, if
I borrowed a dollar?”
The clerk looked at him
strangely. “Err, we charge six per
cent interest. That would be six
cents for the year.”
“O. K., give me the dollar,” he
exclaimed.
“Wait a minute,” the clerk de
clared, “What have you got for
security?”
Sam handed over $50,000. in
government savings bond s—
much to the clerk’s amazement.
The bonds were taken as security
for the one dollar loart. The dol
lar was given to him and he
walked out.
At the end of the year, Sam
walked into the bank, handed
the clerk one dollar and six cents.
“That clears up my obligation.
“May I have my securities?”
The clerk went to the vault,
took out the securities, and
handed them to Sam. “Excuse
me,” the clerk interjected, “It’s
none of my business, of course,
but tell me—a man who has
$50,000 in government bonds—
why in the world did you have
to take out a one dollar loan?”
Sam looked at him innocently
and explained, “Tell me how also
could I put my bonds in a safe
deposit vault for six cents a
year?”
Two well-to-do business men
were taking a cruise to Israel.
The first man in an effort to im
press the second, declared,
“Would you believe I was such
a salesman in my hey-day that I
even sold ice-boxes to Eskimos?”
The second traveler listened
intently, then declared, “Listen,
before I left on this trip, in my
clothing store—I sold a woman a
suit of clothes in which to bury
her husband—and would you be
lieve it, I sold her an extra pair
of pants?”
