attorney, and Cecil Turner,
member of Atlanta’s board of
aldermen.
Gerson, well-known in Atlan
ta’s Jewish community, also has
distinguished himself in civic af
fairs. He is a veteran of World
War II, a member of the Jew
ish War Veterans, has served as
president of B’nai B’rith and the
Progressive Club, and is a direc
tor of the Standard Club and the
Atlanta Jewish Community Cen-
er.
Competition for the state leg
islature also arises for Post 3,
District 118, in which Bob Wal
ling, the incumbent, is opposed
in the primary by Eld Garrard.
William A. Sims, the incum
bent, is opposed in District 131
by Hilton M. Fuller, Jr.

Shapiro—Moattar
AUGUSTA — Miss Marcialyn
Shapiro became the bride of Ed
ward D. Moattar of Atlanta in a
ceremony Sunday, Aug. 28, at
Adas Yeshurun Synajogue.
Rabbi Maynard Hyman offi
ciated. Nathan Bowers presented
the music.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shapiro. The.
bridegroom is the son of Mrs.
Dena Moattar.
Isaac Mobttar was the best
man. Dr. Stanley T. Shapiro
brother of the bride, Fred Fil-
soff, Adele Filsoff, Tophing
Arjmand and Alvin Siegal were
ushers.
The maid of honor was Miss
Rhonda Shapiro, sister of the
bride. Bridesmaids were Miss
Linda Shapiro, Miss Mina Fil
soff, Miss Irene Hershorin and
Miss Rosanne Lurey.
A reception was held in the
synagogue. Assisting were Mrs.
Beverly Shapiro Mrs. Alvin
Siegel and Miss Carol Ann Sche
mer.
After a wedding trip to Miami
Beach, the couple will reside on
Roswell Road, Atlanta.
Beck—Buchman
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Beck of
Surfside, Fla., announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Edith
Harriet, to Jacob M. Buchman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis J.
Buchman of Tampa.
The bride-elect was graduated
from the University of Miami
and is a teacher in the Dade
County School System.
Mr. Buchman is a student at
the University of Miami, where
he is a member of Sigma Nu
Fraternity.
A December 25 wedding is
planned.
Ronald E. Stoltz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Stoltz of At
lanta, is among 55 entering
freshmen at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology nom
inated to the Sigma Alpha Pi
National Freshman Honorary
Fraternity. He is a graduate of
Henry Grady High School.

wedding anniversary on Septem

Mrs. Paul Fierman and son
Michael of Eglin Air Force Base
will be visiting her parents Dr.
and Mrs. Harry Parks of Atlanta,
for the holidays. Lt. Fierman is
on flying missions in Thailand.
Mrs. David Warman has re
turned to Atlanta from a visit
in Bogata, Columbia, S. A., with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
Fogel. She was met in Miami by
her husband, Rabbi Warman of
Congregation Beth Jacob, and
they spent a week there before
returning home.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Horowitz
of Atlanta announce the birth of
a son Scott Brian on Septem
ber 1. The Briss was conducted
September 8 by Rev. Max
Kleinmann. Mrs. Horowitz is the
former Pearl Anne Gulden,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney
Gulden. Paternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Moe Horowitz.
