Dr. Mordecai Kaplan Tells B’nai B’rith
“Money Theism” Is Wrong
STARLIGHT, Pa. (WUP)—Addressing 157 leaders of the
B’nai B’rith Youth Organization participating at the Inter
national Leadership Training Conference at Camp B’nai B’rith
here recently, Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan injected a surprise in
his speech covering numerous subjects by declaring that
“though Jews believe in monotheism, that does not mean that
they all believe in the same God. One’s God,” he said, “is that
which he considers to be the most important value in his life.
So, to many people money is the value they worship. These
people are, unfortunately, monotheists who are ‘money-
theists’.”
On the question of nationalism, Dr. Kaplan declared:
“Nations must learn to relate to one another according to the
ethical precepts which were formulated by Jewish sages and
leaders many centuries ago. The United Nations offers the
greatest hope for the realization of ethical nationalism.”

Dr. Schwartz Sees
Record Bond Drive
JERUSALEM (JTA)— On the
eve of the launching of the fall
campaign for Israel Bonds, Dr.
Joseph J. Schwartz, executive
vice-president of the Israel Bond
Organization, declared that sales
so far this year show an encour
aging increase over the results
of last year. If the campaign
maintains the same pace in the
period from September through
December, Dr. Schwartz added,
"we shall come very close to
ringing up a record total of more
than $100,000,000 in Israel Bond
receipts for 1966.” In 1965, the
sale of $91,300,000 represented
the highest figure ever realized
in the 15-year history of the Is
rael Bond campaign.
