100 Youths Expected at Jekyll
For Regional BBYO Parley
A capacity crowd of 400 mem
bers of Aleph Zadik Aleph and
B nai B’rith Girls from four
states, Florida, North and South
Carolina and Georgia will attend
the annual Regional youth con
vention which will be held De
cember 25-29 at the Corsair Mo
tel, Jekyll Island, Georgia. An
nouncement was made jointly by
Florida presidents, Sheila Miller
and Todd Landsman; and Sou
thern Region presidents Nancy
Vogel and Paul Levy.
Top-level resource people and
feature speakers will travel from
New York City, Washington, and
Atlanta to inspire and assist the
conventioneers in exploring,
stretching their minds, and dig
ging deeply into their rich Jewish
heritage.

made to serve kosher food, in
keeping with National BBYO
policy.
More than thirty volunteer
B’nai B’rith Men and Women and
chapter advisors will help the
professional staff in supervising
the events.
Overall convention director is

director. Staff coordinator for the
program for the two-in-one con
vention (Florida and Southern
Region) is Mrs. Girt ^Bossak, Af-
lanta-Columbus BBYO director.
In addition. North Florida part-

and North Carolina Council di
rector Mort Giniger will round
out the professional BBYO staff.

sub-topic “A Code to Live By,”
Frank Fierman, director of the At
lanta Jewish Communty Center,
will open the convention. Mr. Fier
man was formerly field secretary
of the National Jewish Welfare
Board, has directed children's
summer camps and is a member
of the National Executive Com
mittee of the National Confer
ence of Jewish Communal Serv
ice.
Rabbi Daniel E. Kirshblum, as
sistant rabbi of the Jewish Cen
ter of Kew Garden Hills, N. Y.,
and assistant Educational Direc
tor of Temple Beth Shalom, Ros-
lyn, N. Y., comes from a family
of Rabbis and famous Zionist
leaders. He spent 1956-57 in Is
rael during the Sinai campaign.
During the war he organized all
students into groups which served
as medical aids in army hospitals
and on the battlefield, and was
cited for this by both the Presi
dent of the United States and the
President of Israel. He has lec
tured extensively on Bible, Jew
ish History, Hebrew and on the
American Jewish Community
throughout the country. Rabbi
Kirshblum’s presentation will be
geared to the overall convention
theme.
Richard J. Neumann, promin
ent composer and conductor, and
national music consultant for the
B’nai B’rith Youth Organization,
will direct the Performing Arts
program for the convention. Mr.
Neumann studied in Vienna and
Prague and has directed Jewish
choral groups and taught music
since his arrival in the United
States in 1937. As a member of
the United Nations Film Section
staff he composed scores for UN
documentaries. In addition, he has
directed the weekly radio pro
gram “Songs of the Synagogue.”
Among his published and comis
sioned works are two Friday eve
ning services, traditional prayers
and folk-songs and a Torah serv
ice. “How to Use Music in Chap
ter Programming” . . . with the
focus on Jewish and Israeli music
will be Mr. Neumann’s contribu
tion.

authors—Menucha Rom, of Paris,
and Moshe Jungman of Israel—
were awarded here this week the
annual Joseph Opatoshu Prizes
for Yiddish literature. Miss Rom
received her citation for her book,
“Winds,” and Mr. Juhgman was
honored for his work, “White
Towers.” Each prize is $300.
