A fantastic array of variety
lies ahead for theatrical-minded
Atlantans and visitors during the
holiday season.
Leading the parade with a new
billing will be Atlanta’s Muni
cipal Theater presenting for the
first time in the entire Southeast
Tschaikovsky’s full-length ballet
‘The Nutcracker” opening Decem
ber 25 at the Municipal Audi
torium for a five-day run.
With its sparkling toy soldiers,
dancing snowflakes, Sugar Plum
Fairy, the ballet and the 85-piece
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
promise delight for young and
old.
Imaginative costuming, capti
vating music and enchanting
characters will enliven such fam
iliar classics as ‘‘The Dance of the
Sugar Plum Fairy,” Waltz of the
Flowers” and “Dance of the Choc
olate Soldier.”
Theatre Atlanta has introduced
a new star for its repertory of
ferings, “Waltz of the Toreadors,”
a lively drama which will alter
nate with “Tobacco Road” and
“Royal Hunt in the Sun,” which
continue to enchant growing
audiences.

lion dollar theater complex at

afternoon of cards, home-baked
desserts, and coffee with a charge
of 50 cents.

ate director of the Southeast Re
gion ZOA.
2. Talk by Rabbi I. Usher
Kirshblum, spiritual leader of the
Jewish Center of Kew Gardens,
Flushing, N. Y.
3. Musical Jewish musical num
bers by Ahavath Achim’s popular
Cantor Isaac Goodfriend.
In announcing the occasion, Dr.
Larry Bregman, president of the
Atlanta District, said the public
is invited. The meeting will begin
at 8 p. m. at the Atlanta Corn-

More than 700 persons attend
ed the Second Annual Awards
Banquet of the Atlanta City of
Hope Auxiliary in the Grand
Ballroom of the Marriott Motor
Hotel on Nov. 27.
Alfred E. Garber, a partner in
the firm of Touche, Ross, Bailey
& Smart, was recipient of the
Torch of Hope Award in recog
nition of his distinguished philan
thropic service to his community
and his fellow man. Mr. Garber
serves as an inspiration to all
who work so diligently to advance
the humanitarian precepts of the
City of Hope.
“Nearly $40,000 has been con
tributed to date,” announced Mrs.
Morris Krinsky, banquet chair
man. Proceeds from the Awards
Banquet will establish the Eliot
J. Garber Research Fellowship at
the City of Hope Medical Cen
ter in honor of the Garber’s eldest
son who died a victim of cancer
in 1962 at the age of twenty.
Leonard Schaffer, a member of
the national board of directors of
the City of Hope, spoke words of
appreciation and praise for At
lantans and the local Auxiliary.
Other speakers who paid tribute
to Alfred Garber were former
Gov. Ellis Arnall. Vice-Mayor
Sam Massell Jr., Max L. Kun-
iansky, Mrs. Sam Alterman. Al
bert I. Love, Dr. Philip Welt-
ner, Samuel A. Miller, Rabbi
Harry H. Epstein and Dr. James
Wesberry.

Mr. Sanders, who has recently
returned from Israel where he
met with General Moshe Dayan,
hero of the Sinai campaign, has
a special message from the Gen
eral. He will also discuss the mil
itary and economic situation of
Israel at the present moment.
Rabbi Kirshblum, who has been
a dynamic spokesman for the
Jewish people for decades, has
for decades been closely inden-
tified with American Zionism.
He is chairman of the National
Mrs. Marcia Koslow, national
president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary
of the Jewish War Veterans, will
be in Atlanta on January 15 and
16 to conduct a workshop for
members of the Auxiliary of JWV
Post 112.
On Monday, Jan. 16, at 10:30
a.m. Mrs. Koslow will appear on
WAII television, channel 11. At
2:30 that afternoon she will join
the members of Post 112 JWV A
in the presentation of a new 21-
inch color television to the new
Veterans Hospital.
Mrs. Koslow, bom and edu
cated in Milwaukee, has been an
active member of the JWV Aux
iliary for over 16 years. She has
held many offices in her local
auxiliary, including that of pres
ident. On the national level, Mrs.
Koslow has served previously as
senior and junior vice president,
chaplain, historian, conductress
and has held various chairman
ships.
In addition to her extensive
JWVA activities, Mrs. Koslow
has been a driving force in other
community activities. She has

fairs and served as a delegates to
World Zionist Congresses in 1951,
1956, 1961 and 1964. He is a pest
national chairman for Israel
Bonds for the ZOA and is presi
dent of the Rabbinical Assembly
of Queens. He graduated from
Brooklyn College and the Jewish
Institute of Religion, founded by
Dr. Stephen S. Wise. He was the
first graduate of JIR to become a
member of the Rabbinical As
sembly of America.
Cantor Goodfriend, a recogniz
ed leader in American Hazuneth
circles, heads the music depart
ment for Ahavath Achim Con
gregation, the largest Conserva
tive group in the South. He has
appeared in numerous public con
certs since his appointment to the
post little more than a year ago.

Mrs. Koslow and her husband,
Dave, have two sons Michael, 33,
now with the U. S. Army, and
Leslie, 17, a high school senior
who shows much promise as an
artist.

to have our national president, a
woman of such outstanding back
ground, visit with us. We are
looking forward to an exciting

Atlantans At Malben - JDC Home In Israel
Atlantans Sidney S. and Gertrude Gulden on their recent visit to Israel observing the occupational
therapy program at a Malben-Jofik District Distribution Committee Home for Aged in Israel. Malben is
a beneficiary of the UJA. Mr. Gulden, general manager of Atlanta Steel Supply C<x, was a part of the
UJA Metals Industry Mission which inspected Lsraei’s growing metals industry and studied the coun
try’s Immigration absorption, education and other s>oial welfare needs.
