Zaban donates $20,000 for Senior Citizens Bus
In a startling and dramatic moment at the April
meeting of the AJCC Board of Directors, Erwin
Zaban announced a gift of $20,000 to the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center for the purchase of a 42
passenger bus for the Senior Adult Program.
Zaban made this magnanimous gesture in
response to a proposal from the senior adult
committee underscoring the need for an expanded
transportation service for the growing number of
senior adults participating in Center activities.
Approximately 70 senior adults participate daily
in the Center program between 10:00 in the
morning and 3:00 in the afternoon. They engage in
a variety of group programs before and after a
nutritious lunch. Many of the senior adults would
be unable to participate in the program if
transportation was not available to them.
Paul Aronin, AJCC president, said, “Mr.
Zaban's gift will not only enrich the lives of senior
adults but it will also prolong their life, as it has
been validated medically and psychologically that
older adults who feel useful and have social and
mental stimulation, as they do in the Center
program, experience greater longevity then those
who suffer from the depression of loneliness and
isolation."
