Blood Drive
The 116th consecutive quarterly
blood drive sponsored by the
Jewish War Veterans, the JWV
Ladies Auxiliary and Fulton
Masonic Lodge will be held from 9
a m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6,
at Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
Jerry Fields, chairman, said that
the need for blood is most critical
in the summer time and urged the
community to respond to this
need.

Shearith Israel, Congregation Or
VeShalom, the Temple, Atlanta
Lodge of B'nai B’rith and the
Yaarab Temple Red Devils.

Men is presently forming teams for
its third year of league bowling.
The league will bowl at 8:40 p.m.
Tuesday nights at the Fairlanes in
Chamblee.

A film on Russian refusniks
featuring Anatoly Shcharan-
sky, Vladimir Slepak and Ida
Nudel will be shown at the
Soviet Jewry Awareness Day
program at 8 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 6 at 8 p.m.
Members of the Beth Jacob
Committee on Soviet Jewry
who previewed the film called it
“powerful” and “compelling.”
At the August 6 event, a
direct phone call will be placed
to a Russian dissident. Ben
Rabinowitz, chairman of
Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Federation’s Committee on
Soviet Jewry will report on a
recent visit to Washington to
discuss the issue of Soviet
dissidents. Also, Fifth District
Congressman Wyche Fowler
will speak on the subject.
Marvin Cohen and Miriam
Rose are co-chairpersons of the
Beth Jacob committee. The
meeting is open to the public.

Chapter of the City of Hope
Auxiliary has planned a Stone
Mountain Riverboat Party at
Stone Mountain Park.
City of Hope members and
friends will cruise down the river
while dancing to the music of Eli
Frisch’s orchestra playing dance
tunes of the ’40s and ’50s, plus the
jazz and disco music of today!
Boxes of Spicer’s chicken, along
with beer and soft drinks, will be
served.
There will be a charge of $12.50
per person or $25 per couple.

AJCC
The Onstage Players will
perform “An Adventure In
Children's Theatre" at the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center two
Sundays in August. The
presentation is geared to children
ages five through 12. Five folk tales
and fables will be performed live
by six actors and actresses on Aug.
13 and Aug. 20at 6:30 p.m. 1 ickets
are available in advance at the
front desk of the AJCC or at the
door. Information is available by

Volunteers are still needed to
help staff “Camp Or," the day
camp for blind youngsters which
will be sponsored by Atlanta
Lodge of B’nai B’rith.
The camp will be held at Zaban
Park from 9 to 3 p.m. August 14
through 16.

Congregation Etz Chaim
Congregation Etz Chaim will
hold a Shabbat Dinner Friday,
Aug. 4, at 6:45 p.m. to honor
Rabbi Shalom Lewis and his wife
Shelley.
Rabbi Lewis, with his wife,
recently moved to Atlanta from
New York to serve as a full time
rabbi for Congregation Etz
Chaim.
The dinner is being prepared by
Bob and Shelley Covin, assisted by
lllene Abrams. Jean King, Helene
Rabinowitch and Lynn linkel-
man.
The dinner will be served at the
Mt. Zion Church on Johnson
Ferry and all the families of
Congregation Etz Chaim are
invited to attend

Gold medal awarded to
Hadassah dermatologist
Dr. Felix Sagher, noted skin specialist and professor emeritus at
the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center was awarded the
Alfred Marchionini Gold Medal for scientific achievement and for
furthering international relations in dermatology. As Secretary-
General of International League of Dermatology he maintained
contact with 50 international societies and organized three major
congresses. Dr. Sagher is also known for his work at the Dead Sea
Psoriasis Center which treats patients from all over Europe.
