double duo recital May 18

The Cultural Arts Committee of
Ahavath Achim Synagogue will
present its final concert, a double
duo recital, at 3 p.m. Sunday, May
IS. at the synagogue. Performing
are William Preucil and his wife,
(iwen Starker, on violin, and Dorothy
l ewis on cello and her husband,
Cary l ewis, on piano. The pro
gram will feature works by Han
del, Handel-Halvorsen, Vecsey,
Mos/kowski and Brahms.
William Preucil served as con-
eertmaster with the Nashville and
\ tah symphony orchestras before
assuming that position with the
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra where
he is performing his fourth sea
son. He studied with Josef Gingold
at Indiana University, earning a
Performer’s Certificate. He has stu-
died with Zino Francescatti,
Civorgy Sebok and Ivan Galamian,
and has been on the faculty of
Vanderbilt University, the Univer
sity of Utah and currently at the
University of Georgia.
Gwen Starker also studied violin
at Indiana University with Gin-
gold. She toured Europe and South
America as a member of the Lu
cerne Festival Strings. She con
tinued her studies with Franco
(iulli and received the Performer’s
Certificate from Indiana Univer
sity School of Music. Before mov
ing to Atlanta she was a member of
the Nashville and Utah symphonies.
Dorothy Lewis received her
training at the University of Mich
igan and the Eastman School of
Music where she earned a Per
former’s Certificate and a master
of music degree. She earned a
diploma with distinction at the
Vienna Academy of Music. She
has studied with cellists Oliver
Hdel, Ronald Leonard, Richard
Krotsehak and Pablo Casals. For

Chamber Players, she is on the
faculty of Georgia State Univer-

Cary Lewis earned degrees at
North Texas State University be
fore receiving his DMA and Per

School of Music. A Fulbright
Scholarship provided two years
study at the Academy of Music in
Vienna, Austria. His teachers in
clude Eugene List, Brooks Smith

and Dieter Weber. Dr. Lewis is on
the faculty of Georgia State Uni
versity and teaches and performs
during the summer at the National
Music Camp in Interlochen, Mich.
Both the l ewises are members of
the Lanier Trio.
Harriet and Sam Draluck are
chairmen of the Cultural Arts
Committee. The concert is free and
open to the public.
